Junior Varsity Four takes silver to cap off impressive Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – The Lehigh men's rowing team capped off competition at the Dad Vail Regatta with the Junior Varsity Four capturing a silver medal on the Schuylkill River Saturday. The medal marks the first for a men's boat at Dad Vails in head coach Brian Conley's nine seasons at Lehigh. The Varsity Eight also competed Sunday, taking second place in its fourth-level final which gave them 20th overall, capping off a strong final day of the season for the men's squad.

"We had an exciting end to the season," said Conley. "Our Varsity Eight, while they ended up in the fourth-level final, ended up having a great race. We talked about it and they felt pretty good about how they raced. For the JV4+, that's the first medal the men have had in a number of years, and it's something to build from. We're really excited about how those guys raced and what it means for the program."

The story of the weekend was the Junior Varsity Four, which placed second in the grand finals with a time of 6:33.121. It marked Lehigh's first boat (men's or women's) to take home a medal at Dad Vails since the Women's Freshmen Eight captured silver in 2012.
Earlier on Saturday, Lehigh's Men's Varsity Eight posted a time of 5:43.965, good for second in its fourth-level final.

"The work isn't done and we're ready to go at it again for next year," said Conley. "We are really proud of what the team has done and what they've accomplished this year. We're definitely looking forward to seeing what we can build upon in future years."

The men's squad ended its season this weekend, while the women wrap up their year at the Patriot League Championship next Friday, May 17 at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
