
Army rallies past Lehigh in singles, 4-2, Sunday at West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lehigh's two-match winning streak came to an end Sunday as Army West Point rallied from 1-0 down after doubles play to defeat the Mountain Hawks 4-2 at the Malek Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks won the top two doubles flights, but Army claimed four singles wins on a day when five of the six singles matches went to three sets.
Freshman Gary Fishkin had the lone singles win for Lehigh, which falls to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League. League-leading Army is now 6-0 in league matches and 12-12 overall.
Lehigh opened the match with doubles wins at the top two flights as sophomore Harry Wang and freshman Zack Elliott beat Myles Conlin and Nikita Larichev 6-4 at No. 1 and senior Christopher Auteri and junior Jack Martin-Dyer bested David Mitchell and David Gorshein 6-4 at No. 2. The Mountain Hawks were leading 5-4 in the third doubles match that did not finish.
Army tied the match at 1-1 when Conlin beat Wang in straight sets at No. 1 singles. The remaining five singles matches went three sets. Fishkin rallied from a set down to beat Grant Patterson in three at No. 6 singles to give Lehigh a 2-1 lead but Army claimed the next three singles matches, clinching the win when Mitchell beat Martin-Dyer 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 at the No. 3 flight.
Lehigh will close out the regular season with two matches next weekend. The Mountain Hawks host rival Lafayette on Senior Day, Saturday at 3 p.m. and will travel to Bucknell on Sunday.
