BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's track and field team competed in two meets this weekend. A group of Mountain Hawks traveled to the prestigious Penn Relays beginning on Thursday before hosting the Carol and John Covert Classic Friday and Saturday on Senior Day.

At the Penn Relays, Lehigh's distance medley relay team of junior Hannah Bonaguidi, senior Clare Severe, junior Mary Casey and junior Sophie Antonioli finished fifth overall with a time of 11:46.12.

In the pole vault's collegiate division, sophomore Madisyn Hawkins finished second overall with a mark of 3.65m.

"She was the performer of the Penn Relays for Lehigh," coach Matt Utesch said. "Her performance in the pole vault was great to watch and she won that event when she was in high school, so that's great to see her back there getting a medal. She has a lot more in the tank and we're going to see her do great things going into the Patriot League Championships."

Junior Jordan Otto finished seventh overall in the high jump, earning a mark of 1.63m. Senior Tyler Bannister finished 13th overall with a mark of 1.59m and sophomore Noa Levy finished 16th overall with a mark of 1.59m.

In the discus, sophomore Brittany Curtin finished eighth overall in the college event with a mark of 44.48m.

"Brittany continues to perform and I think we're going to see that for her whole career," Utesch said. "Our biggest job with her is making sure we get her to the meet. If we do that, she's just going to continue to improve and perform."

Senior Stephanie Hayes finished 12th overall in the 3000m with a time of 9:52.80, earning a personal record. Junior Ashleigh Crawford finished 19th, earning a time of 10:11.61.

Noreen Byrne finished 20th overall in the 400m hurdles, winning her heat with a time of 1:02.21. Junior Erin Racano earned a personal record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.56.

Lehigh had three top-10 finishers in the javelin at the Covert Classic, which began Friday at the Goodman Track and Field Complex. Sophomore Brianna Wanbaugh finished first overall with a 42.94 mark. Freshman Veronica Meyer finished in third with a 40.43m mark and freshman Emily Dolan finished seventh overall, earning a mark of 36.39m. Both Meyer and Dolan earned personal records.

"Brianna had a season-best today, coming off an injury suffered in practice," Utesch said. "To come off of that and throw right at 42 meters is outstanding."

Bannister finished first in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m. Freshman Hannah Figueroa finished third overall, earning a 1.60m mark.

"The high jumpers were great; they're really consistent performers," Utesch said. "They're ready to have an even better performance."

The Mountain Hawks also took the top spot in the hammer throw, with Curtin finishing with a mark of 51.65m. Freshman Jena Reinheimer and Meyer also finished in the top 10, earning marks of 42.35m and 42.30m, respectively.

In the long jump, junior Catherine Shippee finished second overall with a mark of 5.28m. Freshman Carly Carpino finished fourth with a 5.01m mark. Shippee also finished second overall in the triple jump with a mark of 11.28m.

Pole vaulter Hawkins finished first overall with a mark of 3.50m. The Mountain Hawks took the top four spots in the event, with senior Katie Toman finishing second (3.50m), junior Caity Reverand finishing third (3.20m) and freshman Carly Roche finishing fourth (3.20m).

On the track, freshman Martina Sell earned first place and a personal record in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:40.87. Sell shaved 25 seconds off her previous personal record of 12:04.98.

Senior Stacie Nadel finished first overall in the 1500m, earning a time of 4:46.89. Sophomore Miranda Royds finished fifth overall with a time of 4:50.57. Rounding out the top 10 for the Mountain Hawks was freshman Nicole Abbondandelo, who finished in seventh with a time of 4:54.40.

In the 800m, Antonioli finished first overall with a time of 2:16.13. Five additional Mountain Hawks finished in the top 10 of the 800m. Freshman Hetty McMillan finished third (2:17.80), freshman Jade Sessions finished fourth (2:18.08), junior Diana Hammerstone finished sixth (2:19.67), sophomore Elyse Barkstrom finished seventh (2:19.95) and Hayes finished 10th (2:21.20).

Lehigh's 4x100m relay team finished first overall with a time of 48.51. The 4x400m relay teams went one-two, with Lehigh's A squad finishing first with a time of 4:18.10 followed by the B squad with a time of 4:18.60.

"It was hard to run well on the track today because it was so windy, which is never conducive to running fast times," Utesch said. "We competed well, and that's what you have to do going into the Patriot League Championships. You don't know what the conditions are going to be like and you don't need to have a personal best; you just have to be in front. That's what we're looking for."

At the conclusion of the Covert Classic, the graduating seniors were recognized in a ceremony commemorating senior day. The Mountain Hawks who were honored were Tyler Bannister, Noreen Byrne, Grace Coffman, Armani Comick, Grace Eckstein, Stephanie Hayes, Maura Henderson, Mariah Kozub, Stacie Nadel, Olivia Reinold, Clare Severe, Ashleigh Thurston and Kaitlyn Toman.

"This senior class has probably seen the biggest shift in culture from when they were freshmen to when they were seniors, and they're largely responsible for it," Utesch said. "They've done an amazing job leading the team and really showing what a Division I program should look like. I can't thank them enough and I'm really proud of them."

Next weekend, Lehigh will travel to Worcester, Mass. to compete in the Patriot League Championships, hosted by Holy Cross. Last season, the Mountain Hawks finished third overall at Patriots.
