Men’s Rowing finishes up strong performance at Kerr Cup
4/20/2019 10:09:00 PM | Men's Rowing
PHILADELPHIA – The Lehigh men's rowing team returned to action for the first time since earlier this month and enjoyed strong success at the Kerr Cup Saturday. The day was highlighted by the Mountain Hawks' Second Varsity Four, which captured gold in the grand finals. The Varsity Four also qualified for the finals, while the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight each reached their petite finals.
"The fours really performed today, which was great," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "Because there were some guys doubling up, we had to scratch our entry in the Varsity 4A final. But the Varsity 4B (Second Varsity Four) stood out for the day and walked away with a win and a medal. That's ultimately what we want to see from guys who are developing, still young and still trying to learn the sport, and what they need to do to win. That was a big win for them, not only for the boat, but also as a program because that will help us keep going in the right direction."
That winning Second Varsity Four crew finished with a time of 7:15.78 in the final after posting a time of 7:08.43 in its heat. The Varsity Four impressed as well, posting a time of 7:16.20 to finish first in its heat.
The Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight finished with times of 6:37.74 and 7:04.12 in its petite finals, respectively.
Lehigh men's rowing returns to action on Saturday, May 4 when it travels back to the Schuylkill River to take on Temple.
