Singles rally leads Lehigh past Colgate in Patriot League Quarterfinals

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After dropping the doubles point, the Lehigh men's tennis team rallied in singles play, winning four matches to defeat Colgate 4-1 Friday at Army's Lichtenberg Tennis Center. Junior Jack Martin-Dyer delivered the clinching point at No. 3 singles as the third-seeded Mountain Hawks advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2016.
The Mountain Hawks will face No. 2 Army West Point, which beat No. 7 Loyola 4-0, in a semifinal Saturday at 2 p.m.
Colgate (7-13) struck first, winning the bottom two doubles flights to take a 1-0 lead. Tyler Krantz and Scott Bickel won 6-2 over senior Christopher Auteri and Martin-Dyer at No. 2 and then Rohan Gupta and Nick Potter clinched doubles for the sixth-seeded Raiders with a 7-5 win over sophomore Jacob Edelchik and senior George Cooper.
Patriot League Player of the Week Zack Elliott jump-started the comeback as the freshman opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Noah Rosenblat at the No. 2 flight. Senior Bryant Born put Lehigh up 2-1 with a straight-set win over Alec Dardis at No. 4.
A 6-1, 6-2 win by Cooper over Jack Ablon at No. 5 put Lehigh a point away with Martin-Dyer topping Peter Hartman 6-0, 6-3 to clinch the match and send the Mountain Hawks on to the semifinals.
Saturday's first semifinal matches top seed Navy, who shut out Lafayette 4-0 and No. 5 Bucknell, which knocked off No. 4 Boston University.
Lehigh (13-7) will be looking to reach the Patriot League final for the first time since winning the tournament in 2013.
