BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With Lehigh's spring practice segment set to begin this week, head coach Tom Gilmore has announced four additions to the Mountain Hawks' coaching staff. The newcomers include Anthony DiMichele (Running Backs/Special Teams/Recruiting Coordinator), Charlie Noonan (Linebackers/Run Defense Coordinator), Chris Zarkoskie (Offensive Line) and Matt Borich (Defensive Line).
DiMichele and Noonan both bring previous experience coaching on Gilmore's staff. Zarkoskie arrives after one season as the offensive line coach at Brown. Borich spent the last 10 seasons at Bucknell, including the last six as defensive coordinator.
A two-time All-Patriot League performer and third team FCS All-American, DiMichele comes to Lehigh after two seasons at his alma mater, Holy Cross, where he served as assistant secondary coach and then spent the 2018 season coaching the Crusader running backs. Prior to that DiMichele spent two seasons coaching the secondary at the University of New Haven.
"I recruited Anthony out of high school," Gilmore said. "He was an All-American player for me. I've seen him develop as a player, as a coach and as a person. He is an outstanding recruiter who has a high care factor and relates well to student-athletes."
Noonan spent the last four seasons as the defensive line coach at Holy Cross, where he mentored four All-Patriot League defensive linemen. He spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Rutgers, where he was a two-year starter and team captain.
"I've worked with Charlie previously for four years, but I've known him for a long time," Gilmore said. "I saw him come up through the high school ranks as a player, then as a college player. He's been around a lot of people I know and respect in football. He's an outstanding young coach. He does a great job motivating his players and instructing them in the technical aspects of the game. He is also an outstanding recruiter who has a lot of experience recruiting in our league."
Zarkoskie spent the 2018 season as offensive line coach at Brown, following three seasons as tight ends coach at his alma mater, New Hampshire. He was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter on the offensive line for the Wildcats and was a team captain who earned All-CAA honors as a senior.
"Chris came highly recommended from several coaches that I've known for a long time and that I respect tremendously," Gilmore said. "He played in an outstanding program in UNH and played under coaches that I've known for many years. He has established himself as a great young coach in the profession."
Borich comes to Lehigh after a decade on the coaching staff at his alma mater, Bucknell. He spent the last six seasons as the defensive coordinator/defensive line coach for the Bison and served as assistant head coach for the last five seasons. Under Boruch's guidance, Bucknell's defenses annually ranked among the best in the Patriot League and in the top 20 nationally. As a defensive lineman, Borich was a three-year letter winner and a member of the Bucknell class with the most career victories.
"Matt brings a lot of Patriot League coaching experience to our program," Gilmore said. "He graduated from a Patriot League school and knows all the ins and outs of being a student-athlete in this league. He has coached in this league and has served as a coordinator in this league for a long time. He coordinated some of the top defenses in the Patriot League, so he brings a lot of credibility as well."
In addition to the four new hires, Gilmore has announced that Scott Brisson will continue to serve as Lehigh's offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach and Mike Kashurba will take over as defensive coordinator, while also coaching Lehigh's secondary. Brisson is entering his sixth season in his second stint at Lehigh and his third coaching the quarterbacks and serving as offensive coordinator. Kashurba, who served as Gilmore's defensive coordinator at Holy Cross from 2014-17, joined Lehigh's staff last year as linebackers coach under Andy Coen.
Also returning to the Mountain Hawks' staff as spring practice begins are A.J. Reisig, Tyler Ward and Brandon Cuevas. Reisig will work with Lehigh's cornerbacks, while coordinating Lehigh's on-campus recruiting efforts. Ward will assist with the defensive line. Cuevas shifts to work with Lehigh's tight ends after coaching running backs in 2018.
Gilmore continues to work on finalizing his staff for the 2019 campaign.
Lehigh will begin its spring practice segment on Wednesday, March 20.
