BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team fell to the Seawolves of Stony Brook Saturday afternoon 6-1 at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
Lehigh falls to 0-3 while Stoney Brook moves to 3-1 on the year.
"I was very happy with our doubles play. Singles was played at a very high level, but it just wasn't good enough today against a tough team," said head coach Sarah Hendrix.
The day started off promising, as the Mountain Hawks saw success in doubles play. Winning two of the three doubles matches, Lehigh went up 1-0 thanks to wins from junior Sibel Can and sophomore Paula Gonzalez who won the No. 1 doubles flight in a close 7-5 bought. Junior Leigh Friedman and senior Grace Lin won the No. 3 doubles flight 6-4 to give the Mountain Hawks their lone point of the match.
Although not winning a single match in singles, there were chances for the Brown and White to pick up wins. At the No. 2 singles flight, Gonzalez won the first set 7-6 before losing the next two sets 6-4. Nowak would go to three sets as well, winning her first set 7-6 before dropping the next two sets 6-3 in the No. 4 singles flight.
Lehigh returns to action tomorrow as it takes on the Siena Saints at 2 p.m. at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
