Lehigh concludes non-league slate at Saint Peter's Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Right before 2019 comes to a close and 2020 begins, the Lehigh women's basketball teams finishes the three-game road-trip at Saint Peter's on Sunday with a 1 p.m. tip-off at the Yanitelli Center.
Sunday's matchup with the Peacocks represents Lehigh's final non-league contest of the season before Patriot League play begins next Thursday vs. Navy at Stabler Arena.
Lehigh comes into Sunday's contest with a chance to get back on track after a tough effort in a 28-point loss to Minnesota last Saturday in Minneapolis.
Minnesota natives Emma Grothaus (16) and Mariah Sexe (10) combined for 26 of Lehigh's 49 points against the Golden Gophers, as the usual suspects failed to get anything going offensively. Senior Camryn Buhr struggled shooting the ball, finishing with just four points, while Megan Walker went 0-for-5 from the field. Senior guard Hannah Hedstrom finished with a season-high eight rebounds and seven points.
The Lehigh bench's effort against Minnesota was its lowest of the season, being out-scored 29-12, but injuries have played a part in that as of late. With just one game being played in the last month or so and a week off since the last one, that should remedy the situation with Patriot League play beginning in a few day's time.
But despite the loss and poor offensive effort, the Mountain Hawks' defense thrived under pressure, holding the Golden Gophers to under 80 points and forcing 13 turnovers.
Due to overall season success through the first 10 games of the season. Mountain Hawks continue to be ranked in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, despite dropping two spots to No. 19 overall. They are the only Patriot League team ranked in the poll.
Through just eight games into the season for Saint Peter's, the team has had mediocre success, carrying a 3-5 record with just the matchup vs. Lehigh before starting up MAAC play next Saturday at Marist.
The Peacocks are on a three-game losing streak with losses against Fairleigh Dickinson, Delaware State and NJIT as of late, surely having their work cut out for them against the Mountain Hawks.
In its last matchup vs. FDU at home, Saint Peter's had four players finish in double-figures with Taiah Thornton leading the charge with 19 points and four rebounds, adding five steals. Gabrielle Harris chipped in 15 points, while Kendrea Williams had 12 and Wil'lisha Jackson 10.
The team shot 37.3 percent from the floor and 24 percent from long range.
A season ago, the Peacocks went 6-24 overall, the most wins since 2010-11, despite going 1-17 in MAAC play with a losing streak of 14 to end the campaign.
This year, Saint Peter's and Lehigh share just one common opponent, Delaware State in which the Mountain Hawks defeated, 68-38 to open up the 2019-20 season.
Sunday marks the seventh meeting all-time between the Mountain Hawks and the Peacocks with the series dating back to the 2010-11 season.
Lehigh has won all six meetings between the two teams, not having played since the 2015-16 season, a 74-42 victory for the Mountain Hawks at Stabler Arena.
Sunday's game will be streamed live on ESPN 3 with live audio streaming available through Lehighsports.com with Matt Markus on the call.
