BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two runners on the Lehigh women's cross country team were honored by the league on Friday. Senior Diana Hammerstone and junior Susie Poore were named to the Cross the Country Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced by the league office. This is the second time Hammerstone has earned this award, while this was Poore's first time being given the award.
The strong duo of Hammerstone and Poore were two of the many leaders on the talented women's cross country team. The senior was named All-Patriot League Second Team after her impressive ninth-place finish at the PL Championships last weekend. After missing the first two races of the season, Hammerstone returned in an impressive way, as she finished four of her five races inside the top-3 for the Mountain Hawks.
Poore has been nothing but consistent the entire year for the Brown and White, as she was the second Lehigh finisher at the Patriot League Championships and just missed being named All-League. However, the junior was dominating the entire season, as she finished inside the top-2 for Lehigh in five of her six races. Poore finished first for the Mountain Hawks in the Lehigh Invitational, Ted Owen Invitational and the Penn State National Open.
In all, both runners are no strangers to academic awards as Poore has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in each of her last two seasons, while Hammerstone has been named the same in all three of her years at Lehigh, while also being named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team last year. Poore's (political science/English) GPA shined at a 4.0, while Hammerstone's (materials science and engineering) GPA shined at a 3.78.
Both runners will lead the Mountain Hawks at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional next Friday at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
