BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a huge win over Lafayette to begin league play 1-0, the Mountain Hawks turn their attention to the Midshipmen as Lehigh looks to go 2-0 in Patriot League play.
Having won six straight against Lafayette on three different occasions, this marks the first seven-game winning streak in Lehigh women's basketball history. To go along with that impressive feat, the men defeated Lafayette 86-83 on Wednesday, making it the first time in school history that both the men and women have had seven-game winning streaks against Lafayette at the same time.
The Mountain Hawks saw three players reach double-figures in scoring against Lafayette, something that has happened in 11 games on the year now. Juniors Camryn Buhr and Genna Grundhoffer both dropped 13 points along with freshman Clair Steele recording the first double-figure scoring night of her career, finishing with a career-high 11 points. Along with her 13 points, Buhr also recorded 10 rebounds, giving her two double-doubles on the year, tying freshman Emma Grothaus for the most on the team this season.
Buhr currently leads the Mountain Hawks in scoring with 13.3 per game and rebounds with 7.0  per game. Hedstrom currently leads Lehigh in assists with 3.0 per game and steals with 1.9 per game. Both Hedstrom and Buhr are in the top-five in different categories in the Patriot League at the moment, with Hedstrom currently third in the league in steals per game (1.9) while Buhr is fourth in 3-point percentage (.452).
The Mountain Hawks have had a rough go of it against Navy in the recent past, with a 1-4 record in the last five and a 2-8 record in the last 10. The last time Lehigh was able to string together multiple wins consecutively against the Midshipmen was from 2011-2012, where Lehigh won three in a row which was part of a 9-1 stretch going from 2008-2012.
This will be the 62nd meeting between Lehigh and Navy, with the Midshipmen controlling a 33-28 advantage over the Mountain Hawks. Last season the two schools split, with Lehigh winning at home 66-63 while losing a close three-point game at Navy 53-50.Â
Although coming in 6-5 overall, the Midshipmen started Patriot League play with a 58-46 win over Loyola (Md.) to start 1-0 in league play. Along with its win over Loyola, Navy is riding a two-game winning streak, as they defeated Saint Joseph's 49-48 to end non-league play. Against Loyola, Jennifer Coleman recorded a double-double, with 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead Navy in both categories. Sophie Gatzounas was close behind with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Playing just two common opponents outside league play, Navy and Lehigh both battle Norfolk State and Monmouth, with the Midshipmen losing to both while the Mountain Hawks went 2-0Â
Coleman is one of the marquee players to watch out for among the Midshipmen, leading her team in numerous statistical categories. Those include points per game (13.5), assists (3.1), rebounds (7.5) and steals per game (1.9) Gatzounas will also provide problems for the Mountain Hawks, averaging 11.2 points per game while leading Navy in minutes played per game with 29.5.
