The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 2-0 week that saw them defeat both Colgate and Army by 20 or more points. Against Army. Lehigh used a 28-point third quarter to propel its self over the Black Knights. A close game in the first half of action, the Mountain Hawks caught fire in the third quarter, going 77.3 percent from the field along with a 5-for-7 shooting performance from beyond the arc to pull away with the victory.Â
The Mountain Hawks saw four players reach double figures in scoring against the Black Knights, with junior Camryn Buhr leading the charge with 15 points on the afternoon. Senior Hailey Pascoe (11), freshman Meagan Walker (11) and Emma Grothaus (10) joined Buhr in double figures in scoring. Junior Cameryn Benz set a new career high in rebounding, drawing in 15 in total, besting the 12 she brought in against Holy Cross on January 9 this year.
Senior Hailey Pascoe became just the ninth player in Lehigh women's basketball history to make 100 career 3-pointers while wearing the Brown and White after hitting three against Army. Now with 102 made 3-pointers, she ranks ninth all-time. Pascoe has now also made at least one 3-pointer in the last 11 games.
Lehigh's defense has helped keep them in games and shut down opposing offenses, as the Mountain Hawks are ranked 23rd in the nation in team scoring defense, allowing an average of 56.0 points per game. The Mountain Hawks have also held their opponents to a shooting percentage of 40 or less 13 times this season, winning 12 of those 13 games. The Mountain Hawks have also held opponents below 30 percent four times this year.Â
Earning Patriot League Rookie of the Week was Emma Grothaus, as announced by the league office on Monday. Grothaus was a big factor in the offense the past two games against Colgate and Army, putting up 10 points in each game. Grothaus also recorded one assist, seven assists, two blocks and three steals in the two games, as the Mountain Hawks went 2-0 the past week to move their record to 13-6 overall and 5-3 in league play. This is the second time Grothaus has been named rookie of the week, as she earned the award on November 12.
The Greyhounds come in with a 2-17 record and 1-7 Patriot League record, which sees them at the bottom of the league. Loyola went through a tough and competitive non-league schedule that included George Mason, Boston College, Saint Josephs and then No. 7 ranked Maryland. The lone non-league win Loyola picked up was over Monmouth. In their last 10, the Greyhounds are 2-8, most recently losing to Colgate 73-64 in overtime. Isabella Therien led Loyola with her third collegiate double-double, scoring 27 points and adding 12 rebounds. Taleah Dixon added 13 points for the Greyhounds and Molly Taylor chipped in a nine.
