Lehigh finishes regular season 6-2 following close win at Bucknell

Mountain Hawks achieve best record since 2010-11 season
LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team did everything in their power to get the victory on Saturday at Bucknell and they did just that. The Mountain Hawks scored their sixth victory of the campaign with a 149-145 win over the Bison at Kinney Natatorium.

The men, at 6-2, finish the regular season with their best record since the 2010-11 season.

Lehigh got the first victory of the meet in the 1,000 yard freestyle, with Kevin Fleck getting a first place finish with a time of 9:43.87. Greg Gardner finished second behind Fleck with a 9:44.72. Fleck also finished first in the 500 free with a time of 4:42.64. Gardner came in third with a 4:47.49.

Walker Wilson started off his events against Bucknell with a win in the 200 free, a 1:41.95 to place him in front of the Bison's stellar Matt McGoey at 1:43.53. Wilson also finished in first place with a 20.95 in the 50 free, beating out Bucknell's Charlie McFarland (21.05) and Liam Pitt (21.15). Finally, Wilson got the best of Pitt and teammate Joey Rogers by claiming the win in the 100 free with a 45.85 and giving the Mountain Hawks another easy nine points.

Freshman Owen Thomas scored a first place win in the 100 back with a winning time of 51.56, beating out Bucknell's Jack Rose by 0.21 seconds. The Mountain Hawks tried to continue the stretch in the 100 breast, but fell short of the win, with Tyler Christ placing second (58.82) and Connor Sept coming in third (59.07). Chadd Cummings finished first in the event with his 57.63 for Bucknell.

Teddy Smith continued to impress with his win in the 100 fly, a time of 50.51, beating out Pitt by just .03 seconds in a tightly contested battle.

On the boards, it was Tyler Keller that came away with a big win in the one-meter with a score of 280.20, beating out Bucknell's Garrett Sommer in dominant fashion, where he scored a 245.25. Keller finished second behind Sommer in the three-meter with a score of 265.80.

The Mountain Hawks concluded the meet with a big win in the 400 free relay, as the team of Wilson, Rogers, Kian O'Brien and Greg Giannella finished in first with a time of 3:06.44.

On the day, Lehigh took home nine first place finished and got some extra points to pull away from Bucknell for a four-point victory, setting itself up for a solid chance at a high finish at the Patriot League Championships Feb. 20-23.
