Men's Track And Field Finishes Second At Angry Birds Meet

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team got back to work on Saturday as they hosted the Angry Birds Meet at Rauch Fieldhouse where they finished second with 140.5 points, beating our Saint Joseph's and Fairleigh Dickinson while losing to Monmouth.
Sprint and Middle Distance
In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Samuel Tapera finished second overall with a time of 7.08. Sophomore Matt Solomon and freshman Trevor Thenga were the next two highest finishers, finishing seventh and 13th with times of 7.19 and 7.53. Junior Kyle Sult won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 while freshman Michael Nardelli and sophomore Evan El-Halawani finished fourth and fifth with times of 8.76 and 8.79.
The 200-meter race saw Solomon place 10th with a time of 24.03 for the fastest time for Lehigh, while Thenga and freshman Martin Labib finished 14th and 16th with times of 24.78 and 25.22. Senior Emre Soybas took second place in the 400-meter race while Nardelli finished 13th with a time of 53.96.
In the 800-meter run, Lehigh had two of the top five runners, with freshman Nicholas Crociata finishing fourth with a time of 1:56.40 and junior Matthew Kravitz placing fifth with a time of 1:56.74.
Long Distance
In the mile run freshman Kyle Burke finished third with a time of 4:24.15 while junior David Fletcher finished fourth with a time of 4:25.95. Senior Kyle Kirk rounded out the top-three Lehigh runners with a 10th place finish and a time of 4:31.59.
Senior Sam Layding placed second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:45.04 with sophomores Seth Slavin and Michael Mitchell finishing sixth and seventh with times of 8:49.21 and 8:49.24. Sophomore Nick Norton was the only Mountain Hawk to place in the final round of the 5000-meter run, placing third with a time of 15:49.84.
Relay
Lehigh finished second in the 4000-meter distance medley, finishing with a time of 10:32.94.
The 4 X 400-meter relay had the "A" and "B" squads finish in the top-10, The "B" squad finished fifth with a time of 3:25.21 while the "A" squad finished ninth with a time of 3:39.82.
Field Events
Freshamn Vincent Polignano finished fourth for Lehigh in the high jump and the only member of the Brown and White to place in the top-10, as he finished with a mark of 1.88m (6' 2''). In the long jump, Sult and Solomon finished eighth and ninth with marks of 6.58m (21' 7.25'') and 6.48m (21' 3.25'') while junior Erik Metz placed 12th with a mark of 6.16m (20' 2.25''). The triple jump had one Mountain Hawk place in the finals, and that was Metz with a third-place finish and a mark of 12.94m (42' 5.50''). The pole vault event saw junior Joseph Kelly and senior Max Jordan come in with a one-two punch, finish first and second with marks of 4.55m (14' 11'') and 4.40m (14' 5.25'').
The weight throw saw third through fifth place occupied by Lehigh, with sophomore Anastasios Mouzakis finishing third with a mark of 15.92m (52' 2.75''), junior Adam Freesman finishing fourth with a mark of 15.79m (51' 9.75'') and sophomore Riley LaRiviere finishing fifth with a mark of 15.30m (50' 2.50''). In the shot put, senior Alexander Rodgers finished sixth with a mark of 14.54m (47' 8.50''), Freesman took seventh with a mark of 14.15m (46' 5.25'') and Mouzakis placed 10th with a mark of 12.70m (41' 8'')
The men will next be in action as they host Lafayette in the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet on January 19 at Rauch Fieldhouse.
