Men's Track And Field Defeats Lafayette In Annual Lehigh-Lafayette Dual Meet

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team took down the Lafayette Leopards Saturday morning at Rauch Fieldhouse in the annual Lehigh-Lafayette indoor dual meet.
Lehigh won 100-81 against the Leopards, earning the Mountain Hawks their sixth straight against Lafayette along with the 26th victory in the all-time series. Lehigh now leads Lafayette 26-20 all-time in the indoor series.
Of the 22 events at Rauch Fieldhouse, the Brown and White secured 16 victories against the Leopards.
Sprints and Middle Distance
The 60-meter hurdles saw junior Kyle Sult place first with a time of 8.35 while freshman Michael Nardelli 8.68 finished fourth. In the 60-meter dash, Lehigh finished second and third with sophomore Matt Solomon finishing with a time of 7.16 and Sult with a time of 7.26.
Solomon finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.29 while freshman Trevor Thenga finished fourth with a time of 24.33. Freshman Nicholas Crociata took top honors in the 400-meter run with a time of 51.64 whole sophomore Evan El-Halawani finished fourth with a time of 52.99. In the 500-meter run, senior Kyle Kirk finished first with a time of 1:07:09.
The Mountain Hawks got the top-two finishes in the 800-meter run as sophomore Sean Brown finished first with a time of 1:56.32 while junior Kip Yegon finished second with a time of 1:57.55.
Long Distance
The Mountain Hawks swept the top-three spots in the 1000-meter race as junior Matthew Kravitz finished with a time of 2:36.12, sophomore Michael Mitchell finished second with a time of 2:29.27 and senior Kyle Berman took third with a time of 2:40.16.
The 3000-meter race saw senior Samuel Layding take first with a time of 8:43:55 and sophomore Seth Slavin take second with a time of 8:47.43.
Relays
Lehigh's 4 x 400 relay quad composing of Kirk, Brown, Burke and Crociata finished first with a time of 3:26.66 while the 4 x 800 relay quad of junior David Fletcher, Yegon, Berman and Kravitz also finished first with a time of 8:06.87.
Field Events
Lehigh saw a sweep of the top-three finishes in the high jump, as freshman Vincent Polignano, Sult and senior Ryan Givens all finished with marks of 1.93m. The long jump saw Sult finish second with a mark of 6.65m while Givens finished third with a mark of 6.51m. In the triple jump, Metz finished second with a mark of 13.21m while Nardelli placed fifth with a mark of 12.14m.
Junior Joseph Kelly finished first in the pole vault while senior Max Jordan finished fourth with a mark of 4.35.
Senior Alexander Rodgers finished third in the shot put with a mark of 14.55m while junior Adam Freesman took fourth with a mark of 13.96m. The weight throw saw Freesman finished second with a mark of 16.48 and sophomore Anastasious Mouzakis finished third with a mark of 15.83m.
Both squads had two track and field athletes' names as the athlete of the meet in that category, as Sult was named the Field Athlete of The Meet and Kravitz was named the Track Athlete of The Meet for Lehigh.
The Mountain Hawks will see action in multiple venues the next time they compete, as Lehigh is set to compete at Columbia, Navy and the Covert Classic hosted by Moravian College at Rauch Fieldhouse. Those events will take place from January 24-26.
