Men's Track And Field Competes In Three Meets This Weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team was tested this weekend, sending student-athletes to compete in three different events from January 25 through January 26.
COLUMBIA CHALLENGE
The Mountain Hawks saw two competitors in Columbia Challenge, as Lehigh sent junior Kyle Sult and freshman Matthew Fisher to compete in the Hepthalon. Sult came in seventh with his top event being the long jump where he finished third with a mark of 6.47m (21' 2.70''). Fisher finished 10th with a score 3412 with his top event 1000-meter race, finishing fifth in that event with a time of 2:55.43.
COVERT CLASSIC
Not having to go too far to find a meet, Moravian College hosted the Covert Classic at Rauch Fieldhouse this weekend with a small group of Mountain Hawks taking part.
The 60-meter dash featured freshman Martin Labib finishing with a time of 7.69 while senior Bartlomie J Bancewicz finished 11th in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:02.53. Also in the 800-meter race was freshman Nicholas Owens, who placed 14th with a time of 2:03.07. Freshman Nicholas Wilson was the lone Mountain Hawk in the mile run, finishing with a time of 4:52.12.
NAVY INVITATIONAL
The Navy Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy was where the bulk of the action was for the Brown and White this weekend.
Sprints and middle Distance
The 60-meter hurdles featured a pair of mountain Hawks competing, as freshman Michael Nardelli finished sixth with a time of 8.74 and sophomore Evan El-Halawani finished seventh with a time of 8.94. Sophomore Matt Solomon led the way for Lehigh in the 200-meter dash with a ninth-place finish and a time of 22.96. Freshman Trevor Thenga rounded out the list for Lehigh with a 13th place finish and a time of 24.00.
In the 400-meter dash, Naradelli was lone Mountain Hawk to compete in the event, finishing seventh with a time of 53.80. Junior Joe Espinal won the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:05.97 while freshman Harrison Ernst finished seventh with a time of 1:09.72. Moving over to the 800-meter run, Lehigh saw a pair of Mountain Hawks finish in the top-five, as senior Kyle Kirk finished fourth with a time of 1:55.92 and freshman Nicholas Crociata finished fifth with a time of 1:56.56.
Long Distance
The Mountain Hawks saw two runners finish in the top-five for the 1000-meter run, with senior Kyle Berman finishing third with a time of 2:31.05 while junior David Fletcher finished fifth with a time of 2:32.38. The Mile Run had three Mountain Hawks compete, with junior Matthew Kravitz finishing third with a time of 4:12.03 while Burke placed fifth with a time of 4:20.94 and sophomore Sean Brown placed sixth with a time of 4:28.15.
Lehigh took third through fifth in the 3000-meter run as sophomore Michael Mitchell finished third with a time of 8:40.80, freshman Jack Good finished fourth with a time of 8:42.28 and Kip Yegon placed fifth with a time of 8:50.75. The 5000-meter run saw senior Samuel Layding finish first with a time of 15:10.50 while freshman Avery Lederer placed fourth with a time of 15:32.63 and sophomore Nick Norton finished fifth with a time of 15:33.24.
Relays
In the distance medley, the Mountain Hawks finished second with the team of Kravitz, Kirk, Burk and Brown finishing with a time of 10:36.17.
Field Events
In the high jump, freshman Vincent Polignano finished third with a mark of 1.90m. The long jump saw senior Ryan Given place fourth with a mark of 6.71m while sophomore Matt Solomon placed seventh with a mark of 6.26 and junior Erik Metz placed ninth with a mark of 6.07m. Metz also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.00. Junior Joseph Kelly finished highest for the Mountain Hawks in the pole vault with an eighth-place finish and a mark of 4.55m while senior Jordan Max finished ninth with a mark of 4.40m.
Lehigh saw senior Alexander Rodgers finish seventh with a mark of 13.73m in the shot put while junior Adam Freesman finished eight with a mark of 13.32m.
The weight throw featured sophomore Anastasios Mouzakis place fourth with a mark of 16.41m while sophomore Riley LaRiviere finished fifth with a mark of 16.02m.
The Mountain Hawks will once again split their squad up as they travel to the Villanova Invitational and the Bruce Lehanne Scarlet and White Invite, both going starting on February 2.
