Lehigh Headed to Princeton for ECAC/IC4A Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams will have several members head to Princeton, N.J. this weekend to compete against athletes from opposing Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference schools at the ECAC/IC4A Championships. The meet will also serve as the final chance for many to qualify for the First Round of the NCAA Championships in Tampa on May 24-26.
This weekend's meet will take place on Saturday and Sunday at Princeton's Weaver Stadium. A complete list of Lehigh's competing athletes, their events and time are listed below.
At last year's ECAC/IC4A Championships, Lehigh had four All-East honorees (three female, one male), including an unprecedented three champions. Sophomore Hannah Patrick is Lehigh's lone returning champion and All-East performer from last season, where she became the first Lehigh freshman female to win at the ECAC meet, which qualified her for the NCAA First Round in the discus.
Patrick is coming off a runner-up showing at last weekend's Patriot League Championships, which was one of 12 podium finishes for the Lehigh women. The Mountain Hawks had four members of the women's team capture individual titles, including junior Kaitlyn Toman's school and Patriot League record pole vault of 3.96 meters. Sophomore Jordan Otto won her first career high jump title (1.70m), sophomore Ashleigh Crawford won the 3,000m steeplechase (10:31.48) and freshman Brittany Curtin captured the league title in the discus (47.87m). In addition to Patrick, Lehigh received runner-up, second team all-league performances from Stacie Nadel (steeplechase), Brooke Schaeffer (800m) and Maddy Harding (heptathlon).
Victor Yegon captured the Mountain Hawks' lone podium finish and title on the men's side, winning the steeplechase in personal record time of 9:06.58.
After this weekend's competition is complete, the top 48 seeds in the NCAA East Region in each event will receive bids to the first round prelims. Currently, Yegon ranks 58th in the East Region descending order list, just under two seconds shy of a qualifying spot for the first round prelims. Sult finds himself in 49th position for the javelin, just 42 centimeters shy of the current final qualifying spot.
Three Lehigh women are currently in qualifying position for a NCAA First Round spot with Patrick seated 37th in the javelin (45.61m), Crawford ranking 44th in the steeplechase (10:28.77) and Toman 46th in the pole vault (3.96m). Curtin ranks 65th in the region, but is just 1.32 meters shy of the 48th and final qualifying position.
