Lehigh Begins Final Home Stand with Two Midweek Contests

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks are set to begin their final home stand of the season with back-to-back non-league midweek contests at Walker Field. Lehigh will host Saint Joseph's on Tuesday, followed by a Wednesday matchup with Coppin State.
Lehigh (15-23) is 4-1 in its last five midweek contests this season, including a record of 2-1 when those games are played at home. The Mountain Hawks have five players who are hitting .300 or better in the last five midweek matchups. Chris Kersey leads the way as he has compiled a .550 batting average and a 1.000 slugging percentage with 10 runs scored during that span. Tony Gallo and Matt Hand have also hit over .300 in last five midweek contests and are tied with Kersey for the team lead with six RBIs during those five games.
Cole McManimon will make his second start of the season when he toes the rubber on Tuesday. The 6' 7" righty owns a 0.93 ERA in five appearances this season, including a 0.00 ERA in his last two midweek appearances against Rider and Delaware. McManimon is 1-1 on the season and has held opponents to a .097 batting average throughout the year.
Saint Joseph's (14-20) enters Tuesday matchup on a five-game skid and is 3-7 in the last 10 games. The Hawks are 10-11 outside of Atlantic 10 conference play and are coming off an 8-5 loss to Delaware in their most recent non-conference midweek game. Lehigh and SJU share three common opponents this season in Davidson, Delaware and Lafayette. Lehigh is 5-4 against those opponents, while SJU is 1-4 against those same teams.
Charlie Concannon paces the SJU offense and is currently the only batter hitting .300 or better on the season with a batting average of .336. He is slugging a team-high .477 and is reaching base at a clip of .404 to also lead the team. Additionally, he leads the team with 20 RBIs.
Coppin State (15-18-1) took two out of three games from Norfolk State over the weekend and is 7-3 in its last 10 games. The Eagles are still searching for their first non-conference midweek win of the season as they are 0-7-1 this season. Coppin State has looked strong against MEAC competition with a record of 14-3 in conference play. Lehigh and CSU share four common opponents on the season in Eastern Kentucky, Navy, N.C. A&T and Norfolk State. Lehigh is 5-6 against those teams, while Coppin State is 5-8.
The Eagles currently have six players hitting .300 or better on the season, led by Nazier McIlwain at .358 and Derek Lohr at .356. McIlwain has recorded a hit in 29 of his 34 games and has gone hitless in back-to-back games only once this season. He also leads the team with 33 RBIs and a .488 slugging percentage.
Coppin State is slated to start right-handed pitcher Quinn Gleed. He is 0-2 in six starts this season with a 3.50 ERA in 11 total appearances. He has compiled eight strikeouts and 12 walks through 36.0 innings of work, while holding opposing batters to a .271 batting average.
Following the two midweek contests, Lehigh will continue its home stand with a pair of Patriot League doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Prior to game one on Saturday, Lehigh will honor the six members of the 2018 senior class with Senior Day ceremony.
