Woltersdorf Earns Second Rookie of the Week Honor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh freshman pitcher Peter Woltersdorf earned his second Rookie of the Week honor of the season as the Patriot League announced its weekly award winners on Monday evening.
Woltersdorf combined with fellow freshman teammate Matt Svanson for the fifth no-hitter in program history last Wednesday in a 14-0 victory over Saint Peter's in Lehigh's home opener. The Flemington, N.J. native was part of an all-freshman battery on the day as he and Svanson threw to freshman catcher Joe Yupp. Woltersdorf and Svanson also became the first freshman pitcher(s) to throw a no-hitter in program history.
The rookie right-hander did not allow a ball out of the infield in his no-hit appearance and did not allow a runner to reach to second base as he was perfect through the first 4.2 innings. He picked up his second victory of the season and is now 2-0 on the year as he compiled a season-high six strikeouts against Saint Peter's.
Woltersdorf also made two relief appearances on the week as he combined for one scoreless inning against Lafayette and Holy Cross.
Woltersdorf has two no-hit appearances on the season as he tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win against Eastern Kentucky. He owns a 1.06 ERA as opponents are hitting just .179 against him in eight appearances this season.
Lehigh will return to action on Wednesday in the Liberty Bell Classic Semifinals. The Mountain Hawks will host Delaware at 3 p.m. at Walker Field.
