Men's Track And Field Has Another Strong Showing As They Compete In The Fast Time Before Finals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's track and field team continued its indoor season with the Fast Times Before Finals at Rauch Field House.
Heptathlon
The Mountain Hawks sent three athletes to compete in the first heptathlon of the season for the Brown and White, with junior Kyle Sult finishing second overall with 4656 points. Freshmen Matthew Fisher and Solomon Myers also competed, finishing ninth and 10th with scores of 3497 and 3474 points.
Sprints, Middle and Long Distance
The 60-Meter hurdles saw three Mountain Hawks compete; with freshman Michael Nardelli finishing the highest among Lehigh runners in the prelims with a time of 8.85 seconds. Sophomore Evan El-Halawani and freshman Trevor Thenga finished with times of 9.10 and 9.26 seconds respectively. The 60-dash saw Thenga finishing fastest for Lehigh with a time of 7.53 seconds in the prelims. Fellow freshman Martin Labib finished with a time of 7.68.
Senior Emre Soybas took home a ninth-place finish in the 200-meter run with a 23.22-second finish. Joining Soybas in the 200-meter run was Thenga and Labib, finishing with times of 24.64 and 25.43 seconds.
Freshman Nicholas Crociata finished in the top-three with his third-place finish in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:08.67. Finishing in the top-20 for Lehigh was El-Halawani with a 17th place finish and a time of 1:11.21 and Nardelli with a 19th place finish and time of 1:11.53.
Junior Matthew Kravitz took top honors in the 1000-meter race with a time of 2:30.37. Also finishing in the top-five for Lehigh was senior Kyle Berman with a third-place finish and a time of 2:31.64, freshman Kyle Burke who placed fourth with a time of 2:34.10 and junior Ryan Paradise who finished fifth with a time of 2:34.43.
Relay
In the 4 x 400 relay, the Mountain Hawks sent two teams to compete; with their "A" squad comprised of Soybas, El-Halawani and Kyle Kirk finishing fourth with a time of 3:28.8. The "B" squad composed of sophomore Samuel Tapera, Nardelli, Labib and senior Bartlomiej Bancewicz and finished 12th with a time of 3:46.84.
Field Events
Freshman Vincent Polignano took third place in the high jump with a mark of 1.95m (6'4.75''). The high jump saw sophomore Matt Solomon lead the Mountain Hawks with a 17th place finish with a mark of 6.14m 920'1.75'') with junior Erik Metz and sophomore Obosa Ogbeide finishing with marks of 5.89m (19'4'') and 5.62m (18'5.25''). In the triple jump, Metz earned a third-place finish with a mark of 13.00m (42'8'') while freshman Carter Schmalzle finished with a mark of 11.74m (38'6.25'').
Junior Joey Kelly placed fourth in the pole vault to lead all Mountain Hawk vaulters with a mark of 4.25m (13'11.25'').
Junior Adam Freesman took a top-10 finish in the shot put, finishing sixth with a mark of 13.92m (45'8''). Sophomore Anastasios Mouzakis finished in the top-20 with a mark of 12.31m (40'4.75'') that placed him 17th.
The weight throw saw three Mountain Hawks finish in the top-10 and one in the top-five. Freesman took fourth place with his mark of 16.02m (52'6.75'') while Mouzakis and sophomore Riley LaRiviere finished sixth and seventh with marks of 15.61m (51'2.75'') and 15.60m (51'2.25'').
The next time Lehigh sees action will be January 12, 2019, as it hosts the Angry Birds Meet at Rauch Fieldhouse.
