Leary unveils 2019 Baseball Schedule

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — It's already December and that means that baseball season is already two months away. The Lehigh baseball team is getting ready for the 2019 season, as head coach Sean Leary has officially announced the schedule for the upcoming campaign.

The schedule features 53 regular season games, including 18 games at J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park and 25 games against Patriot League opponents.

The season is slated to kick-off with a three-game series in Durham, N.C. against Duke of the ACC for the team's first series all-time. The Blue Devils are coming off a successful 2018 season where they finished the year as a NCAA Super-Regional Finalist. The matchups will take place Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. and Feb. 16 and 17 at 1 p.m. at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

"We are really excited to open our season against Duke," said head coach Sean Leary. "It's a great way for us to benchmark our strengths and areas to improve as we work towards our challenging Patriot League schedule."

Lehigh will then continue the non-league stretch with a four-game series at Mount St. Mary's from Feb. 22-24 and then a three-game set at Towson from Mar. 1-3. The team will then head to Philadelphia to take on St. Joseph's on Mar. 6.

The Mountain Hawks will travel to Princess Anne, Md. for a tournament against host Maryland Eastern Shore and Monmouth Mar. 8-10. Spring Break continues with a trip to James Madison to take on the Dukes Mar. 12 and 13 and then a three-game series at VMI Mar. 15-17. They'll head to Fairleigh Dickinson on Mar. 19 and finish up the non-league stretch with the home opener against Penn on Mar. 20.

"Our program continues to add unique opportunities," said Leary. "This year, we will challenge ourselves by traveling for our first five weekend series. The goal will be to prepare ourselves for playing key road games in league play.

"Our pitching staff has the potential to be a strength for us this spring and we strongly believe our pre-league schedule will give them the needed testing to be prepare for the months of April, May and beyond."

Patriot League play opens up with four games of The Rivalry series against Lafayette with two doubleheaders on Mar. 23 and 24.

Lehigh will take on Delaware on the road on Mar. 26 in the opening round of the Liberty Bell Classic and then home meeting with Saint Peter's on Mar. 27.

Patriot League play continues with a three-game series at Holy Cross Mar. 30 and 31 and then another three-game series at Army West Point Apr. 6 and 7.

Before hosting Navy Apr. 13 and 14, Lehigh will host Fairleigh Dickinson to conclude the home-and-home on Apr. 10.

The Mountain Hawks will take on Lafayette for the final time on Apr. 17 and then host three games against Bucknell Apr. 20 and 21.

Lehigh's second-last non-league contest of the season is on Apr. 24 against Coppin St. at Walker Field. The Mountain Hawks start a five-game road trip with a doubleheader at Navy on Apr. 27 and a doubleheader at Bucknell on Apr. 28.

The team's final non-league game of the season is also the final road contest with a trip to Saint Peter's for the second meeting of the year on May 1.

The Mountain Hawks conclude the regular season with a Patriot League weekend starting with a doubleheader against Army on May 4 and then a twin-billing against Bucknell on May 5.
