
Mountain Hawks announce 2019 schedule, name Carron as team captain

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head women's lacrosse coach Jill Redfern announced the Mountain Hawks' 2019 schedule on Tuesday, which features three games against NCAA Tournament teams, along with a spring break trip to California in March. Senior Mary Ellen Carron was also named as team captain on Tuesday.
Carron has played in all but one game in her collegiate career, serving as a key defender over her first two years before breaking out offensively with 19 points behind 15 goals and four assists last season. The 2018 Coaches Award winner, Carron was also a key contributor of the defense that allowed single-digit goals on eight occasions. Carron added 17 groundballs and nine caused turnovers to up her career totals to 40 and 28, respectively.
Carron and the Mountain Hawks will open their season at home on Saturday, Feb. 9 vs. Liberty. Lehigh will then hit the road for Penn State the following Saturday (Feb. 16) to face a Nittany Lion team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.
The schedule continues with three straight home games, hosting Saint Francis (Pa.) (Saturday, Feb. 23), UMBC (Saturday, Mar. 2) and Columbia (Tuesday, Mar. 5). That precedes a trip to California as Lehigh will play two games at San Diego State, first facing the host Aztecs on Sunday, Mar. 10) before playing UC Davis two days later (Tuesday, Mar. 12).
Patriot League play begins on Saturday, Mar. 16 at home vs. Boston University. Lehigh will travel to reigning NCAA Tournament qualifier Loyola (Saturday, Mar. 23) before hosting defending league championship Navy (Wednesday, Mar. 27) and Army West Point (Saturday, Mar. 30) in the span of four days.
Lehigh will hit the road for three of the next four games, traveling to Colgate (Saturday, Apr. 6), Lafayette (Wednesday, Apr. 17) and Bucknell (Sunday, Apr. 21) with a home contest vs. Holy Cross in between (Saturday, Apr. 13).
The Mountain Hawks close the regular season against American on Friday, Apr. 26. The Patriot League Tournament begins with the quarterfinals on Sunday, Apr. 28, followed by the semifinals and championship game May 2 and 4 at the No. 1 overall seed. Lehigh will be vying for its sixth straight Patriot League Tournament berth. The Mountain Hawks have been especially impressive as of late, posting a 38-17 record over the last three seasons.
