BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a one-month break for final exams and the holidays, the Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams will reconvene this week and compete on Friday at the Wagner College Invitational. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start time on Friday afternoon at the Ocean Breeze Track Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
Lehigh is among the over 50 schools and clubs that have registered (not guaranteed) to participate in the meet, including fellow Patriot League foes Army West Point and Holy Cross, plus Division I schools Stony Brook, Maryland, LIU Brooklyn, Rider, Wagner, St. Joseph's, Fordham, Monmouth and Central Connecticut among others.
This will be the first meet away from home for the Mountain Hawks this season. The team opened 2017-18 with two meets at Rauch Fieldhouse in early December. At the Lehigh season opener, the men picked up an individual win from Kyle Kirk in the 800m run. On the women's side, Brooke Schaeffer had a hand in both events that were won by the Mountain Hawks, picking up a victory in the 800m run, and then running the anchor leg for the winning 4x400 relay team.
On Dec. 9 in the Fast Times Before Finals, freshman Madisyn Hawkins broke the school's pole vault record and senior Amanda Youngblood earned two victories in the throws as part of six individual wins for Lehigh on the women's side. The Lehigh men won four events at the Lehigh Season Opener, courtesy of Alexander Fitzgerald (5,000m), junior high jumper Ryan Givens, freshman Anastasios Mouzakis (weight throw) and the 4x800 relay team, in addition to runner-up in three additional events. For their performances, Youngblood was named the Patriot League's Female Field Athlete of the Week and Mouzakis took home the Men's Rookie of the Week.
