Mountain Hawks drop tight 4-2 final to Army West Point in Patriot League Semifinals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's tennis team won the doubles point and a quick singles match to take an early 2-0 lead, but Army West Point came out victorious at Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 6 singles to down the Mountain Hawks 4-2 in the Patriot League Semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the Ulrich Courts.

"Today was an amazing match, one of the best matches I've ever been a part of as a coach," said Lehigh head coach Wouter Hendrix. "Give credit to Army for outplaying us in singles. I thought we brought everything we had today. Hats off to Army."

Lehigh's duo of Leigh Friedman and Grace Lin quickly won its doubles match at No. 3, 6-3. Sibel Can and Cassidy Cruz followed with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles to give the Mountain Hawks the doubles point.

Briana Maravich gave Lehigh a 2-0 lead with an efficient 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles. The Black Knights followed with a win at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-3 and No. 2 singles, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.

Overall, three of Army's four singles victories came in three sets. The Black Knights took a 3-2 advantage following a three-set win for Melanie Allen over Christina Auyeung at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3. Jamie Campisi dropped a hard-fought match at No. 6 as Yuka Lin won 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5) to clinch the Army win.

The Mountain Hawks finish their season at 10-9 following their second tight match against the top-seeded Black Knights. Lehigh dropped a 4-3 final to Army during the regular season.
