BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's rowing team is set for it final competition before the Patriot League Championships as the Mountain Hawks travel to Holy Cross on Saturday. Racing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. Lehigh is coming off a home race against Mercyhurst which saw the Mountain Hawks' women's varsity eight crew defeat the perennial Division II National Championship contenders.

"We are looking forward to having our last race be against a Patriot League perennial grand finalist to see where we stand," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "Holy Cross and Lehigh have had some great races recently, and I'd expect no different on Saturday."

Saturday is a day that could help the Mountain Hawks' confidence heading into the Patriot League Championships, which are Friday, May 14 at the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.

"We focus a lot on the process, but the finish line of the season is fast approaching and this is our last opportunity to build our racing experience," said Conley. "I want us to put all 2,000 meters together and leave Worcester knowing we can compete at Patriots."

With the finish line of the season approaching, Conley realizes and appreciates how far the team has come.

"Our captains are great leaders and have risen to some really tough challenges throughout the year," said Conley. "At the same time, the women in the Varsity Eight have really been the ones setting the standard for the team. I've been impressed with, how as a boat, they are leading the team, on and off the water."

This Saturday is one more step in the process of building towards championship contention.

"The team wants to one day bring home a championship," said Conley. "They know it's a process. Racing Holy Cross is a part of that process and discovering if we can compete with Holy Cross means making the grand final or not.  We have to get into those grand finals at Patriots in order to compete for the championship, and we know the league is tough and getting faster each year."

After Saturday's racing, the Mountain Hawks will return to action at the Patriot League Championships on Friday, May 14 on the Cooper River.
