BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Only one more week remains ahead of the 2017 Patriot League Championships for the Lehigh women's track and field team. The Mountain Hawks will have their final tune-up before the championships this week with the Lehigh Games on Saturday at the Goodman Track and Field Complex and the annual Penn Relays.
Â
Lehigh will send athletes to partake in 11 different events on the women's aside, including a Championship of America Event. Senior Courtney Avery will defend her high jump Championship of America title on Saturday's final day of competition at 10:00 a.m. In last season's championship, she leapt 1.78 meters to become the first Lehigh female in program history, and the first since Morton Lamb in 1931 to win a Championship of America event at The Relays. Lehigh's distance medley relay team will also be competing in the college division championship, with the start for that event scheduled for 5:40 p.m. on Thursday.
Â
Most of Lehigh's competition will take place on Thursday's first day of action beginning with senior Amanda Youngblood in the discus at 9 a.m., and sophomore Noreen Byrne following in the 400m hurdles at 10 a.m. Also at 10 o'clock, sophomore Kaitlyn Toman will compete in the pole vault and three Mountain Hawks – Brittany Le Jouan, Sarah Cassidy and Tyler Bannister - will compete in the collegiate high jump.
Â
On Thursday afternoon, Youngblood will compete once more in the shot put at 12:45 p.m., followed by the women's 4x100 relay team at 1:15, the DMR team at 5:30 and the 4x400 relay team at 6:25. On Thursday evening, freshman Hannah Bonaguidi will run in the 3K at 8:35 p.m. Â
Â
Senior Katie Hatler will represent Lehigh on Friday at 4 p.m. in the heats of the 100m hurdles.
Â
The rest of the team will compete on Saturday at the Lehigh Games along with Lafayette, Loyola (Md.), St. Joseph's, Muhlenberg, Moravian, and East Stroudsburg among others. The meet will serve as the final competition on the Goodman Campus Track ahead of next weekend's Patriot League Championships.
