BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh rowing team looks to build on its momentum from last weekend's strong showing at the Kerr Cup when it hosts Mercyhurst on Saturday. Racing is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Lake Nockamixon in Quakertown, Pa. Last Saturday, seven Lehigh boats competed in finals races at the Kerr Cup, most in school history at that event.

"The team has shown they are able to compete," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "They really, really stepped up and having that momentum will hopefully help this weekend against a tough opponent."

Last Saturday was highlighted by the Women's Varsity Eight and Men's Freshmen Eight, who each came in second in their heats and advanced to their respective grand final.

The season is progressing well as the Mountain Hawks look to continually improve and be at their best for the Patriot League Championships and Dad Vail Regatta in May.

"I've been impressed these past couple weeks with how the team has shown some speed," said Conley. "We will always have speed to find, but I think we are learning how to maximize the speed we have. I'm hoping we can find one more gear for the championships."

With May right around the corner, in the short term, the Mountain Hawks are focused on this Saturday's regatta against Mercyhurst, a perennial Division II NCAA Championship competitor. Lehigh is also excited to be home for the second time this month, following the River Cup on Apr. 1.

"A second home race for us is unusual and is definitely exciting for the team," said Conley. "It will also help us not stress about school. We are always looking to add to our home schedule and this is a great first addition. I'm excited to see what we can do against a strong team. Hopefully, we can take a couple races."

Following Saturday's race, the Lehigh women head to Holy Cross next Saturday (Apr. 29) to face the Crusaders while the men return to action on Friday, May 12 at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
