BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off a strong showing at a trio of meets last weekend, the Lehigh women's track and field team will look to keep the momentum going with just two weekends left before the Patriot League Championships. This weekend the bulk of the Mountain Hawks will take part in the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton's Weaver Stadium, while a smaller group will head south to the Virginia Challenge at UVA.
Â
The two-day Larry Ellis Invitational will begin at noon on Friday with select throwing events, and track events beginning at 4:45 p.m. with the 800m Elite. Saturday will begin with the women's shot put at 11 a.m., followed by the track events at 1:45 p.m., which will run throughout the afternoon.
Â
The Virginia Challenge will also span two days, beginning Friday with the multis kicking off at 1:45 p.m. Both Friday and Saturday will feature evening sessions beginning at 7 p.m. Friday's evening session will also be streamed live online on WatchESPN. Last weekend, Lehigh had numerous athletes set new personal records as the team competed at three different meets. Senior Courtney Avery and sophomore Kaitlyn Toman both tied school records, with Avery's winning high jump (1.80m) ranking tops in the Patriot League this season and 12th overall among NCAA East Region qualifiers. Toman's runner-up pole vault of 3.65 meters tied the Lehigh program record set back in 2010 and ranks her second in the Patriot League. Avery was recognized as the Patriot League's Field Athlete of the Week for her performance last weekend, along with freshman Hannah Patrick who collected the league's Rookie of the Week honor after setting a PR (44.44m) in third place in the javelin at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
Â
Lehigh also had athletes competing at the Mondschein Multi, where Tyler Bannister set a meet record in the high jump (1.66m) while competing in the heptathlon. At the Bison Outdoor, LU finished eighth overall among Division I schools, and sophomore Maura Henderson came within one second of the school's 1500m record, finishing 14th overall.
