4/20/2017 5:04:00 PM | Baseball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Rivalry will be renewed on the baseball diamond in the 363rd meeting between Lehigh and Lafayette when the two teams get together for game one on Saturday for the start of a four-game Patriot League series. Saturday and Sunday's doubleheaders are slated for 12 p.m. start times at Kamine Stadium. All four games will be covered live on the Patriot League Network.

The Mountain Hawks (12-24, 2-10) are looking to bust out of a seven-game slide in league play after losing the final three games of the series at Holy Cross, followed by dropping all four games in a closely contested series last weekend at home against Navy. The Leopards (3-37, 1-11) won their league opener on April 1 over Army West Point and have since been on an 11-game skid in Patriot League games. Lafayette enters the weekend on a 14-game overall losing streak.

The Lehigh offense has fallen on tough times as of late and has slid to the bottom of the Patriot League rankings in team batting average with a mark of .243 and an average of .178 in league play. The Mountain Hawks still reign supreme in home runs with 37 and rank second in the league with a .406 slugging percentage.

The LU pitching staff ranks second in the league rankings with a 4.74 earned-run average, with a 3.79 ERA in league games. The Mountain Hawks have compiled a 1.28 WHIP through 12 Patriot League games while surrendering 3.33 earned runs per game with a .240 opponent batting average.

The Lafayette offense sits third in the league with an overall batting average of .259 and a mark of .292 in league play. The Leopards also rank third in the league in slugging percentage (.391) and home runs (22).

The Leopards are last in the league with an overall ERA of 8.33 with a mark of 7.53 in league play. Lafayette has surrendered a league-worst 7.5 runs per game on 10.08 hits per game against Patriot League opponents. The Leopards rank last in the league with an overall fielding percentage of .942 with a league-high 82 errors.

Lafayette is 1-5 on its home field this season with the one win against Army in the league opener. Lehigh is 2-10 in true away games this season and 1-4 in road league games with the one win against Holy Cross.

The Mountain Hawks currently own a five-game win streak over the Leopards and have not lost a regular season series to Lafayette since dropping three of the four games in the 2009 series. Additionally, the last time LU fell in a four-game set in Easton was in 2007.

Lafayette leads the all-time series with a record of 207-153-2. Lehigh is 14-6 against Lafayette in the last five seasons.
