BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh baseball team will look to snap a four-game skid when the Mountain Hawks host Iona Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. from J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park with live video coverage on the Patriot League Network.
Lehigh (11-24, 2-10) was on the wrong side of a four-game sweep against Navy this past weekend. The sweep was not indicative of how close the series was as the Mountain Hawks lost by only one run in the first three games before the Navy offense broke through with an 11-5 victory in the final game of the series. The Mountain Hawks held the league's top offense and one of the nation's best offenses to just 2.00 runs per game on 5.00 hits per game and a .163 batting average in the first three games.
David Young was the bright spot of the Lehigh offense on the weekend as the senior tallied five hits and four RBIs during the series, including a three-run homer in the series finale.
After this weekend, Lehigh's pitching staff has two starters under a 1.85 ERA. Senior Connor Donovan has a 1.80 ERA in five starts, while freshman Levi Stoudt has a 1.81 ERA in nine starts.
Iona (12-13, 5-4 MAAC) enters Tuesday's battle fresh off a series victory over MAAC foe Qunnipiac. The Gaels have won three of their last four games, combining for 27 runs in those three victories. Iona's 12 wins include two victories over NYIT, outscoring the Bears 22-5 in those two games.
The Iona offense has swung the bat well of late as the Gaels are averaging 6.6 runs per game in their last nine contests. Fran Kinsey anchors the offense with his team-highs in hits (26), runs (16), RBIs (20), doubles (4), and triples (2).
On the mound, Patrick Ryan has posted impressive numbers in his seven starts. Ryan has accumulated a 3-1 record with a 2.31 ERA. Opponents bat .156 against Ryan and he's tallied 34 strikeouts in 35 innings.
Iona leads the all-time series against Lehigh with a 9-7 record. The last matchup came in 2015 when both teams split a four-game set.
Following Iona, the Mountain Hawks will begin preparation for a four-game set against archrival Lafayette on Saturday and Sunday. Lehigh will look to snap a 7-game conference slide in the first meeting. First pitch of the series is set for 12 p.m. in Easton.
