QUAKERTOWN, Pa. - The Lehigh rowing team won eight-of-nine races on the day, including wins by both the Women's and Men's Varsity Eight, as the Mountain Hawks captured the River Cup against archrival Lafayette at Lake Nockamixon Saturday. The Women's Varsity Eight finished more than 20 seconds ahead of Lafayette while the Men's Varsity Eight crossed the finish line than 22 seconds ahead of the Leopards.

"We had an exciting day of racing," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "It was fantastic to bring the River Cup back to Lehigh along with the two Varsity Eight trophies."

The Women's Varsity Eight finished with a time of 8:13.00, ahead of Philadelphia University in second (8:26.03) and Lafayette in third (8:33.99). The Men's Varsity Eight tallied a time of 6:55.48, ahead of the Leopards, who finished in 7:17.60.

"The two Varsity Eights came out of the starting line aggressively," said Conley. "It was great to see the efforts that were made by the athletes, and all the work that they've been putting in over the years pay off.

Other Lehigh boats that won on Saturday were the Women's Second Varsity Eight (8:46.16), Women's Freshmen/Novice Eight (8:13.00), Women's Novice Four (9:34.00), Men's Varsity Four (8:20.57), Men's Freshmen/Novice Eight (6:56.27) and Men's Novice Four (8:54.00).

The Mountain Hawks are set to return to action at the Kerr Cup on Saturday, Apr. 15 in Philadelphia.

"I'm excited to see what happens with the rest of the season," said Conley. "We're going to use the [break from regattas] to prepare and make sure we're on top of our academics."
