Henderson Tops School Record; Lehigh Grabs Win at Lafayette 7-Way

EASTON, Pa. – Sophomore Maura Henderson broke the Lehigh women's track and field school record in the 5,000m run on Friday at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina, and Lehigh captured 12 wins and 13 runner-up finishes on Saturday at the Lafayette 7-Way Invitational. The Mountain Hawks tallied 295 points to cruise to a first place finish among the three Division I schools at the 7-Way, while the Raleigh Relays was unscored.
 
Henderson highlighted the Carolina trip with a new school record 16:30.60 in the 5K on Friday. The time placed her 13th overall out of 103 runners and is 12.82 seconds faster than Elizabeth Weiler's previous program benchmark from 2014. Henderson now holds five school records overall, with Friday's time marking her first school record on the outdoor circuit. The 5K also saw freshman Hannah Bonaguidi place 54th overall in 17:24.95.
 
Marissa Karl and Brenna Clark both set new personal records to lead Lehigh in the 1500 meter run in Raleigh, with Karl finishing the race 41st overall out of 105 finishers in 4:32.93. Clark followed in 53rd place in 4:36.04.
 
Back in the Lehigh Valley on Saturday, senior Amanda Youngblood grabbed two wins in the hammer throw (PR-46.32m) and discus (39.09m), and junior Paige Grossman finished runner-up in both events to help lead Lehigh.
 
The Mountain Hawks swept the field in the javelin behind Hannah Patrick (36.53m), Melody Walthers (34.28m) and Meghan Reilly (33.43m). LU also took the top four places of the high jump, led by Jordan Otto (1.60m) and followed by Tyler Bannister, Olivia Reinold and Brittany Le Jouan, who all cleared at 1.55m. Seniors Kiana Wright (10.65m) and Courtney Wu (10.12m) took the top two spots in the triple jump, in addition to landing on the podium in second and third place of the long jump, with Wright taking second (5.19m) and Wu landing in third (5.07).
 
On the track, senior Katie Hatler was victorious in the 100m hurdles, with Mariah Kozub finishing third (16.15). The Brown and White also swept the podium in the Division I section of the 400m hurdles, led by sophomore Noreen Byrne (1:05.66), senior Natalie Jacobs and freshman Hillary McElawain.
 
Leah Ferguson and Amanda Fischer went two-three in the 100m dash, and Ferguson broke the tape to win the 200m dash in 27.15. Hanna Brosky and Brooke Schaeffer took the top two spots in the 400 meter dash. Freshmen Jenn Mickens and Sophie Antonioli climbed into the top three of the 800 meter run with Mickens taking second place in 2:19.94.
 
The 5K saw senior Ashley Strysko lead the way to victory out of the 11 racers with a time of 18:23.04, followed closely behind in second place by Stacie Nadel (18:39.79).
 
The Mountain Hawks also swept gold in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, and also took third place in the 4x4.
 
Lehigh has one meet on the schedule next weekend in the Muhlenberg Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 1.
