Lehigh Women Setback by Azusa Pacific in Spring Break Opener

AZUSA, Calif. – Lehigh began its spring break trip to California with a 7-2 loss at Azusa Pacific. The Cougars, ranked No. 25 in Division II, are now 7-3 on the season while the Mountain Hawks fall to 3-4 and slip below .500 for the first time since mid-February.
Azusa began by sweeping the doubles competition as the 17th-ranked pairing in Division II of Natalie Johnson and Lisa Schneider defeated Lehigh's top pairing of Christina Auyeung and Jamie Campisi by a score of 8-4.
The Cougars began the singles competition with three-straight wins at the fourth, first and third flights, including a 6-0, 6-3 victory by No. 38 Johnson over Auyeung at the first flight.
Freshman Sibel Can earned Lehigh's first victory of the day. The freshman improves her record to 4-3 this season with a 6-3, 0-6, 7-6(5-7) win at flight No. 2 over No. 29 Schneider.
Lehigh suffered another setback at flight No. 5, but then got back in the win column with a win by Campisi at the sixth spot. The senior posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tatiana Betancourt to improve to 4-3 on the season.
The Mountain Hawks will cap off their west coast swing with a match at Claremon-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET.
