BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's basketball team ended the first half on a 20-2 run and cruised from there, defeating Colgate, 87-69 on Wednesday evening in Stabler Arena. Wednesday's game was presented by Ricoh. Senior Tim Kempton led the way offensively with 22 points and 11 rebounds for his 50th career double-double and fifth in his last six games. Kempton added a career-high six steals, doubling his previous career high of three. As a team, Lehigh (17-11, 11-6 Patriot League) shot 53.2 percent from the field, on the way to its fifth win in the last six games.
Â
Colgate knocked down seven of its first eight three-pointers to come back from an early 10-3 lead. The score was tied at 31 when the Mountain Hawks went on their 20-2 run.
Â
"We got a great effort from Colgate, especially early in that first half," said Lehigh head coach Brett Reed. "They were incredible; they were making every shot. We were forcing some turnovers and imposing our will, but that three-point line became a great neutralizer and got them right back into the game.

"One thing that I'm really proud of is in those situations, it's really easy to get deflated, have your shoulders slump and have your head go down, but our guys were able to fight through," Reed continued. "They didn't relinquish and continued to be aggressive. We made some adjustments. Our guys worked well with those adjustments and they continued to score offensively. Sometimes, when things are going wrong, it's easy to fall on your heels, but they continued to attack and I'm most proud of them for that."
Â
Along with Kempton's 22 points, sophomore Kyle Leufroy scored 19 on 7-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-8 from three-point range. Senior Austin Price recorded 16 points, four rebounds and three assists while junior Kahron Ross had 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, along with four assists.
Â
After a Will Rayman three-pointer gave Colgate a 3-2 lead, the Mountain Hawks used an 8-0 run as a Price layup gave Lehigh a 10-3 advantage with 15:57 on the first-half clock.
Â
The teams went back and forth over the ensuing six minutes until Kempton scored four straight points to give Lehigh a 26-22 advantage with 9:07 remaining in the first half.
Â
Colgate pulled even at 31 with 6:24 on the clock, but the Mountain Hawks responded in a big way, ending the half on a 20-2 run. The run began with a three-pointer from Leufroy and later included a Leufroy trey with 28 seconds remaining. He followed with a steal and emphatic dunk to end the half, getting the Stabler crowd to its feet and giving the Mountain Hawks a 51-33 halftime advantage.
Â
The Raiders pulled within 14 early in the second half, but the Mountain Hawks staged a 14-3 run, beginning and ending with Leufroy treys, as Lehigh took a 70-45 advantage with 11:04 on the second-half clock.
Â
Lehigh's lead reached 27 a couple minutes later following a Ross three-pointer. Colgate pulled within 20 at 75-55, but the Mountain Hawks always had an answer. The Raiders pulled as close as 16 in the final minute, but Lehigh cruised to the 87-69 victory.
