Women's Tennis Tallies 6-1 Victory Over Stony Brook for First Win of Season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team notched its first win of the season on Saturday with a dominating 6-1 win over Stony Brook. The Mountain Hawks improve to 1-2 on the season while the Seawolves fall to 1-2 having now lost two-straight matches.
The freshman tandem of Sibel Can and Leigh Friedman earned the first doubles victory of the day by picking up a 6-1 win at flight No. 2. The win is also the first doubles victory of the season for the two Mountain Hawk rookies. After a Stony Brook victory at flight No. 3, the veteran pairing of Christina Auyeung and Jamie Campisi gutted out a 7-5 victory at flight No. 1 to clinch the doubles point for the Brown and White. Auyeung and Campisi now improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Seawolves knotted the match up, 1-1, by starting off the singles competition with a victory at No. 3. Auyeung put Lehigh back in the lead with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at flight No. 1 as she improves to 2-1 on the season. Lehigh would remain in the lead from that point on.
Briana Maravich captured her first victory of the season with her 6-4, 6-4 victory at flight No. 4. Can sealed the Lehigh victory as she survived a three-setter with Nadia Smergut at flight No. 2. Can won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to improve her record to 2-1 on the season.
The Mountain Hawks extended their lead by adding on two more victories at flights five and six. Campisi earned a convincing 8-1 victory at No. 6 to earn her first victory of the season and Cassidy Cruz scored a 8-4 win at flight No. 5 to also collect her first win of the season.
Lehigh will look continue its winning ways next Saturday with a home matchup against Mount St. Mary's (Md.). The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
