BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Former Lehigh women's lacrosse standout player, and current Mountain Hawks' assistant coach, Allison LaBeau was selected sixth overall in the United Women's Lacrosse League Supplemental Draft held Saturday night. LaBeau becomes Lehigh's first-ever alumna in the league while she's the program's second assistant coach in the league - joining current associate head coach Sammy Cermack, who has played for the Philadelphia Force since the league's inception.
"I was so excited when I heard I was selected in the draft," said LaBeau. "I decided to go into coaching because I loved the sport so much and wanted to help players have the same amazing experience. I think coaching actually makes you a better player and I now have the opportunity to continue to grow as a player. I know Sammy has had a really great experience on her team and has formed many new friendships, so I'm really looking forward to joining the Baltimore Ride."
Along with the Ride and Force, the UWLX features the Boston Storm and Long Island Sound. The league began play in the summer of 2015.
LaBeau joined the Mountain Hawks' coaching staff after graduating in May with the third-most points in Lehigh women's lacrosse history (257). She is Lehigh's all-time leader in career assists with 105, holding the top two spots in a single season as well (48 in 2017 and 34 in 2016). LaBeau was a four-time first team All-Patriot League honoree, earning Rookie of the Year in 2014 and Attacker of the Year in 2016. She garnered All-Region honors following her junior campaign. LaBeau's 152 goals are also fifth in program history. She recorded 80 points as a junior (46 goals, 34 assists) and 91 as a senior (43 goals, 48 assists), finishing eighth and 12th nationally in points per game, respectively.
The Mountain Hawks finished the 2017 season 12-6, improving their record over the last two seasons to 25-11 mark, tied for the third most wins over a two-year stretch in school history. Lehigh featured three first team All-League honorees and finished third in the Patriot League standings with a 6-3 league mark, its best finish since 2011.
