BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a strong performance at Navy Day, the Lehigh rowing team heads to Boston this weekend for the prestigious Head of the Charles. On Saturday, the Mountain Hawks will have entries in the Men's Alumni Eights (12:59 p.m.), Women's Club Fours (1:57 p.m.) and Women's Club Eights (2:37 p.m.) on Saturday, along with the Men's Collegiate Fours on Sunday (2:53 p.m.).

"Head of the Charles is a big event," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "For the team, it is the culmination of the hard work from the summer and this fall. Not everyone can go to the Charles. It helps create an added level of competition within the team to earn the opportunity to go and race in Boston. Each year, the team is trying to achieve guaranteeing an entry for the next season."

Last season at the Head of the Charles, Lehigh Women's Club Four finished in 26th place out of 59 crews with a time of 20:51.962. Meanwhile, the Men's Collegiate Four finished 21st of 43 with 19:15.042.

Last weekend at Navy Day, Lehigh was led by the Men's Varsity Four which saw Mountain Hawk crews finish eighth and ninth, respectively (out of 23 boats). Meanwhile, the Women's Varsity Eight "A" crew finished 15th (out of 26 boats) with a time of 15:12.35.

"Navy Day was valuable because it showed what intensity and hard work can achieve," said Conley. "The goal of the team is simple. Finish in the top 50 percent of the field and therefore, guarantee an entry for the next year. Every place above that is a bonus. I'm excited to see what our team can achieve this weekend."

Following this weekend, the Mountain Hawks will wrap up the fall season next Saturday (Oct. 28) when it competes in Class Day as part of the Head of the Halloween Regatta at Lake Nockamixon in Quakertown, Pa.
