Lehigh rows against La Salle and Delaware for final tune-up before championship races

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Facing outside competition for the last time until its championship races, the Lehigh rowing team enjoyed a busy Saturday with a scrimmage against La Salle in the morning before the women faced Delaware in the afternoon. The Mountain Hawk women now look ahead to the Patriot League Championships while the men prepare for the Dad Vail Regatta, both in two weekends.

"Today was a little rough, but not unexpected with the scrimmage in the morning," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "We did well with the scrimmage then in the afternoon, we found out some things we still need to work on."

The Mountain Hawks began the day by rowing against La Salle in a scrimmage as both teams used the opportunity to learn from each other and get better.
"This morning gave us a good idea of how other teams practice and will help us raise our game," said Conley.

In the afternoon, the women faced Delaware, coming in second in both the Varsity Eight (6:55.90) and Second Varsity Eight (7:23.46).

"Having a morning session and full-out 2,000-meter race in the afternoon was worthwhile heading into our May championship races," said Conley. "Our players learned what it took in those races in order to be successful."
Â
Lehigh returns to action in two weekends on May 13 at both the Dad Vail Regatta (men) and Patriot League Championships (women).
"I think today gave our team an extra bit of hunger to find that extra speed," said Conley. "Coming off the water, they were disappointed with the end result, but they understood what they need to do moving forward."
