PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – For the third straight weekend, junior Courtney Avery took first place in a high jump event, this time in the Championship of America event at the Penn Relays. Avery highlighted Friday's second day at the prominent meet with a winning leap of 1.78 meters. With the victory, she became the first female in school history to win a Championship of America event and the first athlete from Lehigh to win an elite event at the Penn Relays since Hall of Famer Morton Lamb in 1931. It is the second straight week she has hit the 1.78m mark, which is one centimeter shy of her own school record and the top mark in the Patriot League this season. It is the second Penn Relays win of her career, having previously won the College Division High Jump as a freshman in 2014.
"It's a really good feeling," Avery said of the accomplishment afterwards. "All of the girls are such amazing jumpers and it's makes for a really good competition."
