Mountain Hawks fall 5-2 to visiting Army

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Army in the Mountain Hawks' final home match of the season Thursday afternoon at the Ulrich Varsity Courts. Sophomore Christina Auyeung won both her doubles and singles matches, but the Black Knights won five singles matches en route to the 5-2 victory. The Mountain Hawks fall to 8-8 overall and 3-4 against Patriot League opponents, while Army improves to 19-5 on the season and 5-1 in league play.
The duo of Auyeung and junior Jamie Campisi got the afternoon started with a 6-3 win at the top flight of doubles. Army claimed the third flight, but sophomores Briana Maravich and Kirstin Godau picked up a 6-4 win at the second flight to clinch the doubles point for Lehigh.
Army's Nancy Porter opened singles action with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Campisi at the fifth flight to even the match at 1-1. Auyeung then grabbed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Rugile Valuniate at the top flight of singles to put another point on the board for Lehigh.
The Black Knights responded by winning the final four singles matches as Godau fell 6-3, 6-4 to Allyson Hayley at the sixth flight before junior Cassidy Cruz dropped a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 battle at No. 4 singles. Maravich fell in a tight 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 match at No. 3 singles before freshman Grace Lin suffered a 7-5, 7-5 defeat at the second flight and Army claimed the 5-2 win.
Lehigh wraps up the regular season Saturday at Holy Cross at 3:30 p.m. The Mountain Hawks will then begin preparations for the Patriot League Tournament next weekend at Navy.
