Mountain Hawks pick up big 5-2 win over Saint Joseph’s

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team swept the double matches and claimed four singles victories to earn an impressive 5-2 win over visiting Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks even their season record at 4-4 with the win, while the Hawks fall to 2-2 on the season.
"This win felt like a turning point for us," said head coach Wouter Hendrix. "Saint Joseph's is a high-quality team, so this is definitely our best performance of the season so far. We came out highly energized and with a ton of confidence. The strong execution in doubles made it extra rewarding. I'm proud of our student-athletes."
Sophomores Christina Auyeung, Briana Maravich and Kirstin Godau, along with freshman Grace Lin, each won in both singles and doubles. Godau clinched the match for the Mountain Hawks at No. 6 singles.
Auyeung and junior Jamie Campisi began the afternoon by cruising to a 6-1 win at the top flight of doubles. Lin and junior Cassidy Cruz then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at the second flight, before a 6-2 win from Maravich and Godau at the third flight completed the doubles sweep and gave Lehigh a 1-0 match lead.
Maravich opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Saint Joseph's Alex Zachem at the fourth flight to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 lead. The Hawks cut the deficit in half as Kristina Eisenbrand defeated Campisi 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Auyeung battled for a 6-2, 7-5 win at the top flight over Clair Minnoe to put Lehigh ahead 3-1.
After Cruz fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, Godau clinched the match at the sixth flight with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Anne Marie Devlin. Lin then wrapped up the 5-2 win with a gutsy 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (5) victory over Maureen Devlin at No. 2 singles.
The Mountain Hawks return to action Sunday when Lehigh hosts Rider at 11 a.m.
