BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Trevor Knowles successfully defended his league title in the heptathlon and broke his own school record in the process at the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. Knowles, along with sophomore Patrick Reilly (5,000m run) and the 4x800 meter relay team all hit IC4A qualifying marks on Saturday. As a team, Lehigh currently sits in fifth place headed into a very busy final day of competition on Sunday.

Knowles shattered his own school heptathlon record by 171 points, finishing with a total of 5,224 points, surpassing his old record of 5,053 points (indexed) from December's Angry Birds Invitational. The heptathlon began on Friday evening where he placed second in the 60 meter dash (7.32 seconds), second in the shot put (12.62m), third in the high jump (1.83m), and fourth in the long jump (6.34m). After resuming on Saturday, Knowles swept the three remaining events capturing first place in the 60 m hurdles (8.67 seconds), pole vault (4.55m) and 1,000 meter run (2:37.68).

On the track, Reilly led the way for the Brown and White in the 5,000 meter run with a solid eighth place, IC4A qualifying time of 14:35.40. Alexander Fitzgerald (14:49.27) and Evan Hardy (14:51.24) followed right behind him to round out the top 10.

In the finals of the 4x800 meter relay, Clay Stabopelszy, Ryan Cooney, John Tolbert and James Chappell combined on a seventh place finish of 7:50.14, exceeding the IC4A qualifying time by nearly three seconds.

In field event finals, Daniel Boardman scored a pair of points for Lehigh in the high jump, finishing seventh overall with a leap of 1.94 meters. Ryan Givens also competed and used a 1.84 meter leap to finish 11th overall.

Boardman followed that up later in the day by scoring four more points in the long jump, tying his indoor PR of 7.01 meter for a fifth place finish. Dan Reichenbach (6.65m), Michael Gooding (Indoor PR-6.52m) and Michael Camera (PR-6.46m) took 11th through 13th places, respectively.

"We had some solid performances and I'm excited for tomorrow to see where we can finish up," said head coach Matt Utesch. "I'm really excited to see what we can do in the shot put, vault and triple jump as well."

The championship's remaining field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Sunday morning at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. All remaining track events will take place throughout the afternoon, beginning at noon. Be sure to visit the Patriot League Championship Central Page to view up to date schedules and information.
