Moyar Leads Lehigh on Third Day of Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Jacob Moyar of the Lehigh men's swimming and diving team broke his own school record in the 400 individual medley and hit a NCAA B-cut time to lead the Mountain Hawks on day three of the Patriot League Championships. Lehigh sent five individuals through prelims and into 'A' or 'B' finals over the course of the day and sit in sixth place overall headed into Saturday's final day of competition.
Moyar achieved his second NCAA B-cut time in as many days on Friday, this time eclipsing the mark in both the prelims and finals of the 400 yard individual medley. He placed fifth overall in the finals in 3:52.60, eclipsing his prelim time by 0.09 seconds. Both times also broke his own school record by approximately one second, a mark he set at last year's league championships.
Fellow junior Justin Kostelnik qualified for the 'B' final and wound up 16th overall for the event (4:04.43). Freshmen James Mauk (19th/4:05.33) and Ryan Morgan (23rd/4:13.68) both represented Lehigh in the prelims.
Junior Justin White swam his way to the 'B' final for the 200 freestyle. He finished fourth in the consolations finals for a 12th place mark overall of 1:39.16. Earlier in the day, Kian O'Brien, Tristan Stritzel and Jamal Willis each swam alongside White in the 200 free prelims.
Dean Shafritz and Jimmy Davey led Lehigh into the 'B' final in the 100 yard breaststroke. Shafritz placed second in the consolation (10th overall), finishing the race in 51.69. Davey came in four spots behind in 14th place (51.82). Matt Carducci finished one place shy of qualifying for the 'B' final, while Evan Riddell took 20th overall.
Lehigh was also represented by six swimmers in the prelims of the 100 yard butterfly. Connor Guilfoyle and Matt Wong also competed in the 100 breaststroke and divers Croldy Veliz and Sean Daugherty represented Lehigh in one meter diving.
The 2016 championships will wrap up on Saturday with the prelims for the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly taking place at 10:30 a.m. Women's three meter diving prelims will start at 1 p.m., followed by the 1650 prelims at 3:30 p.m. All final heats are scheduled for the 6 p.m. session.
