BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After four months and eight separate meets of competition, the Lehigh men's swimming and diving team will culminate the 2015-16 season this week at the Patriot League Championships. The four-day event, hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy will take place on Wednesday through Saturday in Navy's Lejeune Hall.

Lehigh was predicted to finish fifth in this year's preseason poll, and finished the regular season with a record of 5-5 (3-2 Patriot League), enjoying league wins over Loyola, Lafayette and Colgate.

Freestyle
Lehigh is slated to have competitors in five different freestyle events.

School record holder Jamal Willis leads the Mountain Hawks in the 50 yard freestyle, along with teammates Justin White, Zach Tieke, Tristan Stritzel and Kian O'Brien. Willis and White both qualified for Olympic Trials in December in the 50 meter freestyle at the U.S. Winter Nationals. White, a second team All-Patriot selection last season, accumulated five second place finishes and a pair of third place tallies in the event so far this season. Willis, a two-time All-League honoree, enters the championships having won six of the eight 50 freestyles he has competed in this season. Tieke finished third against Loyola and Lafayette in the event and had a season-best time of 21.44 seconds against Army.

White, Willis, Tieke and Stritzel will also compete in the 100 free. White holds Lehigh's top seed time of 45.18, having won the event five times this year to go along with two second place finishes. Tieke turned in a season-best time of 47.50 against NJIT and Colgate on Oct. 31.

White will also lead the quartet of Mountain Hawks scheduled for the 200 free, along with Willis and Stritzel, who enters with a seed time of 1:46.44. O'Brien will also take part as one his three events at the championships.

Lehigh will turn to a pair of freshman in James Mauk and Ryan Morgan for both the 500 and 1650 freestyles.

Backstroke
Four Mountain Hawks will take to the pool to compete in the 100 yard backstroke with Jimmy Davey, Dean Shafritz, Matt Carducci and Evan Riddell.

At Lafayette on Nov. 20, Shafritz captured first place in both the 100 and 200 backs, while Carducci posted a season-best 100 back time of 53.72. Davey, who enters with a seed time of 52.29, has turned out solid performances in the 100 back over the last two meets, winning the event against Loyola (53.51) and taking second at Drexel (53.89).

Shafritz and Riddell will also join Mauk, Justin Kostelnik and O'Brien for the 200 backstroke. Kostelnik won the event in the team's home finale against Loyola, and finished second in the 200 back at Drexel and Lafayette, posting his season-best time of 1:54.64 against the Leopards.

Breaststroke
Lehigh will turn to another pair of freshmen in Matt Wong and Connor Guilfoyle in the meet's two breaststroke events. Wong set season-bests of 1:04.55 in the 100 breast and 2:23.21 in the 200 breast in the Lafayette dual meet.
