The Play 4Kay initiative is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise funds, support and awareness for the prevention of female cancers. Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised $5.18 million in support of women's cancer research. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is the official charity of the initiative and was founded from the vision of the organization's namesake Kay Yow, former North Carolina State women's basketball coach. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away in 2009 after facing her third bout with the disease.
Â
