
Mountain Hawks Host Annual Angry Birds Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team finished third out of five teams on Saturday at the Angry Birds Invitational at Rauch Fieldhouse. The Monmouth Hawks, St. Joseph's Hawks, Winthrop Eagles and Penn Quakers all joined the Mountain Hawks at the annual event.
Kiana Wright captured Lehigh's lone victory of the day on the women's side in the triple jump, besting the field of eight competitors with a leap of 10.97 meters. The mark also tied a personal indoor record, which she set at the 2014 Angry Birds Invite. Brittany Le Jouan came in third in the event (10.84m), one spot ahead of teammate Noreen Byrne (10.83m).
Wright also took runner up in the field of 22 competitors in the long jump at a personal-high of 5.38 meters. Gabrielle Wardle (5.19 meters) and Courtney Wu (5.15 meters) took fifth and sixth place, respectively, to combine for seven team points.
Sarah Cassidy and Amanda Youngblood were the Mountain Hawks top two scorers in the shot put, where both also set new personal collegiate highs. Cassidy's mark of 12.16 meters was good enough for third place, and Youngblood (11.71) took sixth in the event that featured 19 participants.
Michaela Bubak was the highest-finishing Mountain Hawk in third place in the weight throw, where she set a new personal record with a mark of 15.89 meters. Youngblood was second on the team, setting a new personal record of her own with 14.92 meter toss.
In the high jump, Courtney Avery led the way for Lehigh in second place, jumping 1.70 meters. Le Jouan and Wardle placed fourth and fifth respectively, both jumping 1.65 meters, which was a new career high for Le Jouan. Olivia Reinold also scored for Lehigh by tying for eighth (1.60m).
Liyala Dickens won her heat en route to a third place overall finish in the 200 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 27.06, setting a new collegiate personal best. Natalie Jacobs was not far behind for Lehigh, coming in fifth overall with a time of 27.17. Dickens was also the Mountain Hawks highest finisher in the 60 meter dash, placing ninth with another PR time of 8.13 seconds.
Lehigh's day on the track began with the 5,000 meter run, where Arielle Weiner notched a second place finish of 19:19.97. Katie Hatler also took home a second place prize (8.93 seconds) in the 60 meter hurdles. After winning their respective 60m hurdle heats, Wardle took fifth overall (9.36) and Byrne took seventh place (9.52) in the field of 15 competitors.
In the mile run, freshman Maura Henderson led the way for Lehigh with a sixth place finish, crossing the line in 5:13.36.
Marissa Karl and Hannah Brosky placed in the top 10 of the 800 meter run, with Karl taking fifth place in 2:19.04, and Broksy rounding out the top 10 with 2:20.86 performance.
Lehigh also competed in the 4,000 meter distance medley relay for the first time this season, where Lehigh's 'B' squad of Laura Barnes, Brosky, Hannah Leskow and Ann O'Connell edged out the St. Joseph's 'A' squad for second place, netting seven team points with a time of 12:35.57.
The Brown and White will return to action next Saturday, January 23 at 2 p.m. when they will host the annual dual meet against rival Lafayette.
