Mountain Hawks travel to unbeaten Bucknell Wednesday night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team will face a tough road test Wednesday night when the Mountain Hawks head to first-place Bucknell for a 7 p.m. Patriot League contest. Free video will be available on the Patriot League Network with audio coverage live on ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley.
Lehigh carries a 9-6 overall record and 2-2 mark in league play into Wednesday's showdown. The Mountain Hawks dropped their league opener to Army before rebounding with back-to-back wins over Boston University and Loyola. In Lehigh's most recent game Saturday, the Mountain Hawks trailed defending champion American by 16 with under seven minutes to play and were able to pull back within two in the final seconds, but Lehigh's rally fell just short as the Eagles earned a 59-55 victory in Stabler Arena.
Junior Lexi Martins led Lehigh with her 12th double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals. Sophomore Quinci Mann followed with 14 points and three assists, while senior Elizabeth Jordan chipped in nine points.
For the season, Lehigh has scored an average of 67.8 points per game, but the Mountain Hawks have been limited to 58.2 points per Patriot League contest. Martins leads the team with season-long marks of 15.0 points per game and 14.5 rebounds per contest, which ranks second-best in all of Division I. Mann follows with 13.3 points per game, while senior Kerry Kinek has chipped in 12.8 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest.
Bucknell sits atop the Patriot League standings with an unblemished 4-0 league record to go along with an overall mark of 10-5. The Bison are a percent 4-0 in league play for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Bison opened league play with a 51-41 win at Navy before taking down preseason favorite Army West Point 79-69 at home. Bucknell followed that with a 66-60 road win at American before capturing a 58-51 victory at Holy Cross in Bucknell's most recent game Saturday.
Bucknell and Holy Cross were the last remaining unbeaten teams in league play entering Saturday's game. Bucknell trailed by as much 11 in the second quarter and were still down eight early in the third before rallying back to snap a three-game losing streak in the series with the Crusaders. Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year Jacquie Klotz led Bucknell with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Claire DeBoer followed with 11 points and five boards. Kaitlyn Slagus recorded nine points and seven rebounds. Kyi English dished a career-high seven assists.
Klotz leads the team with season-long marks of 15.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, while DeBoer follows with 14.9 points and 8.1 boards per contest. The Bison have outscored their opponents by an average of +4.3 points per game and hold a +7.8 rebound margin.
Lehigh and Bucknell split last season's series, with the home team winning each contest. The Mountain Hawks hold a 42-35 all-time advantage over the Bison. Lehigh put together several rallies that fell just short in a 69-61 loss at Bucknell in the most recent meeting on Feb. 25, 2015 at Sojka Pavillion. Katie O'Reilly led the way for the Mountain Hawks with 18 points on an 8-for-10 shooting effort. Martins followed with 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Sarah Williams tallied ten points, while Kinek dished a team-best four assists. Bucknell was led by Audrey Dotson with 19 points and five assists and Klotz with 18 points and eight rebounds.
The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 40.7 percent (24-for-59) from the field, 26.3 percent (5-for-19) from three-point range and 44.4 percent (8-for-18) from the charity stripe. Bucknell shot 50 percent (24-for-48) from the field, 30.8 percent (4-for-13) from downtown and 77.3 percent (17-for-22) from the free throw line. The Bison held a slim 32-30 rebound advantage.
Following Wednesday's game, Lehigh will return home to host Holy Cross Sunday at 3 p.m. inside Stabler Arena. The game will be broadcast nationally by the American Sports Network.
