Mountain Hawks predicted seventh in Patriot League preseason poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's soccer team has been picked seventh in the Patriot League preseason poll, as announced on Tuesday. The Mountain Hawks finished last season in a sixth-place tie and had a chance to qualify for the league tournament right until the very last game of the Patriot League regular season.

Lehigh received 70 points to finish seventh, just six points behind Loyola who had 76 points in sixth. Defending champion Boston University was predicted first with 155 points and 11 first-place votes. The Terriers were followed by Colgate (147 points), Navy (135), Army West Point (103) and Bucknell (92). Following Lehigh is Holy Cross (64), Lafayette (35) and American (23). Preseason All-League and individuals awards were also announced Tuesday.

The Mountain Hawks had a chance for the Patriot League Tournament until the very end. Lehigh finished 2014 tied with Loyola for sixth place, but lost out on the final tournament spot due to a tiebreaker. Last season featured several highlights, including a six-game unbeaten streak to begin league play and a hard-fought 1-1 tie against eventual champion Boston University.

This season, Lehigh looks to advance back to the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2012 and compete for its first league title since 2010, which was Eric Lambinus' first season as head coach.

The Mountain Hawks open their season at home this Friday at 8 p.m. vs. Mount St. Mary's. A live broadcast through the Patriot League Network will be available.
