2015 Schedule
BETHLEHEM, Pa - Lehigh head women's soccer coach Eric Lambinus announced the team's 2015 schedule on Monday, highlighted by games against a pair of NCAA Tournament teams and several opponents who competed for conference championships in 2014. The Mountain Hawks open their season against Mount St. Mary's on Friday, Aug. 21 and open Patriot League play at home vs. Holy Cross on Saturday, Sept. 19.
"We are very excited about the schedule for the fall," said Lambinus. "It's a great mix of competitive games that will absolutely prepare us for the Patriot League season. From our scrimmages against Rutgers (Aug. 11) and UMBC (Aug. 15) to all the regular season games, we feel we will be playing against several teams that will be competing for conference championships. Playing against that level of competition will help prepare us for the Patriot League which has consistently shown it is a deep league where all 10 teams have a legitimate chance to play for a title."
After the opener against Mount St. Mary's on the 21st, Lehigh hits the road for four straight games. The Mountain Hawks play at Marist on Monday, Aug. 24 before heading to Binghamton the following Sunday (Aug. 30).
Lehigh will face its first NCAA Tournament team on Thursday, Sept. 3 when the Mountain Hawks travel to La Salle. The Explorers were 14-6-2 in 2014, advancing to the Atlantic 10 Finals and earning an at-large berth into their fourth straight NCAA Tournament. Lehigh and La Salle didn't play last season. Recent games have been close; the Explorers won the last meeting in 2013 by a 1-0 final.
Three days after playing La Salle, the Mountain Hawks will return to Philadelphia on Sunday, Sept. 6 when they face Temple out of the American Athletic Conference. The Owls were 11-8-1 last season, including 8-4-0 in conference play.
The Mountain Hawks return home for the first time in three weeks when they begin a four-game homestand against Monmouth on Friday, Sept. 11. Monmouth finished 14-5-0 in 2014, including 7-2-0 in the MAAC. Two days later, Lehigh welcomes Atlantic 10 Tournament qualifier Saint Joseph's for a Sunday matinee.
Patriot League play begins the following weekend as the Mountain Hawks host Holy Cross on Saturday, Sept. 19 before closing the homestand against Colgate the following Saturday.
Lehigh hits the road on Wednesday, Sept. 30 to face Navy before traveling to Army on Saturday and Penn the following Monday, Oct. 5. The Quakers were 8-5-3 and 4-2-2 in the Ivy League last season.
The Mountain Hawks face their second Ivy League opponent in a 10-day span when they travel to Princeton on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The Tigers were 7-6-3 a season ago and 4-3-1 in league play. Lehigh remains on the road three days later when the Mountain Hawks head to defending Patriot League Champion Boston University. Lehigh played the Terriers to a 1-1 draw last season.
The regular season wraps up with two straight home games, against rivals Lafayette (Wednesday, Oct. 21) and Bucknell (Saturday, Oct. 24) before closing out the regular season at American on Friday, Oct. 30.
The Patriot League Tournament begins with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 3 with the semifinals and championship the ensuing weekend.
Lehigh looks to build off the spring season and the fall, 2014 campaign, which saw the Mountain Hawks post their longest-ever unbeaten streak to begin league play (six). They tied defending Patriot League champion Boston University and finished the season with six shutouts.
