The Rivalry: Lehigh vs. Lafayette | Meet Schedule
Â
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams will head across town Saturday to face archrival Lafayette in the annual outdoor dual meet. Field events begin at 11:30 a.m. from Lafayette's Metzgar Fields with running events to follow at 12:30 p.m.
Â
Both Mountain Hawk squads will be looking to complete the season sweep of the Leopards after the men earned a dominant 120-61 victory in the indoor dual meet on Jan. 24 and the women picked up a 96-85 win. The Lehigh men won 15 of 17 events while four Mountain Hawks registered IC4A qualifying marks and many others set new personal records. The women won nine of 17 events to edge out the Leopards in January.
Â
The Mountain Hawks will be looking to build upon a successful start to the outdoor season. Lehigh split its squad between three separate meets last weekend as some Mountain Hawks traveled south for the Winthrop Invite and Raleigh Relays, while others stayed nearby and competed in the Lafayette 7-Way. Senior Ryan Mahalsky led the men with a fourth-place and IC4A-qualifying finish in the 10,000 meter run at the Raleigh Relays to earn Patriot League Runner of the Week recognition. Sophomore Courtney Avery earned her second-straight Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week award after tying her own school record in the high jump with a leap of 1.76 meters at the Winthrop Invitational.
Â
The women aim to earn their second-straight outdoor dual meet victory after capturing a 107-96 win over the Leopards a season ago. Current junior Elizabeth Weiler picked up first place in both the 1,500 meter and 5,000 meter runs while Avery earned the high jump title.
Â
The men lost a narrow 102-101 outdoor dual meet at Lafayette last season. Senior Benjamin Beauchamp recorded an IC4A-qualifying mark in the discus to earn first place while Lehigh also picked up event victories in four other field events and five track events.
Â
Following Saturday's dual meet, Lehigh will send runners to Moravian's Coach Pollard Invite, George Mason's Spring Invite and Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic next weekend.
