BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding a pair of impressive double-figure victories last week, the Lehigh men's lacrosse team will look to ride the momentum in another big Patriot League matchup at Colgate on Saturday. Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. With a win, the Mountain Hawks would stay right in the Patriot League Tournament race down the stretch.
Â
Lehigh's offense has exploded as of late, scoring a season-high 16 goals at Monmouth last Tuesday before bettering that with 19 goals at Holy Cross Saturday. That included six goals in the first 4:54 of the fourth quarter to turn a 12-4 lead to a 17-5 advantage. Lehigh scored eight fourth-quarter goals, the most goals in a quarter since also scoring eight in the third quarter of last year's 20-4 win against Holy Cross. The Mountain Hawks' starting attack combined for 18 points behind 13 goals and five assists. Senior Dan Taylor led the way with eight points (four goals, four assists) while junior Reid Weber scored a career-high five goals and added an assist. Senior Patrick Corbett also scored four goals for his 13th career hat trick. In the process, he eclipsed 100 career points (currently owning 101). Taylor enters Saturday's game with 195 career points.
Â
Sophomore Cody Triolo scored his first two career goals in the victory while senior Kurtis Kaunas dished a career-high three assists. Senior Lukas Mikelinich led the close defense with three groundballs, a caused turnover and his first-career goal in the fourth quarter. Freshman Bo Lori also impressed on the faceoff wing with a career-high four groundballs. Freshman Matt Ernst won 16-of-25 faceoffs at the X while sophomore Casey McAdam won all four he took. The Mountain Hawks dominated the groundball battle, holding a 31-16 edge.
Â
Freshman Adam Sawicki continued his strong play in goal, stopping nine-of-15 shots sent his way. Coupled with his performance at Monmouth, that earned him Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors. He was also named ECAC Rookie of the Week the following day. Sawicki has now allowed 10, seven, five and six goals in his four career starts. Only 21 of the 28 in that stretch have been even-strength tallies. On Saturday, Sawicki made seven of his saves in the first half. At one point in the second half, the Mountain Hawks had 10 more goals (11) than Holy Cross had shots on goal (1). The Crusaders fired three late shots on goal, which sophomore Donny Stires saved. Stires entered late as the Mountain Hawks began playing their reserves down the stretch.
Â
